[00:00:00] Today, you’re going to learn about how to know if avoidance and distraction is damaging your sales, your productivity, and your business. By the end of this episode, you will have learned from a wonderful client of mine, Laura, how to know when you are distracting yourself, when you are avoiding yourself and exactly what to do and how to bring that into a place of productivity.

 

[00:00:40] Where you can do the actions that you need to do in order to bring in more income, decrease your anxiety and increase your ease in your life and in your business.

 

[00:00:50] So we really need to celebrate one of my amazing clients. Her name is Laura. She’s inspired this episode as well as some of the other conversations that I’ve been having with you guys [00:01:00] around how to make sure that you are, moving the needle in your business. I remember if you guys listen back.

 

[00:01:07] Oh, I can’t remember which episode it is, but I’ll link it below an episode with Jerry, one of the reasons that she joined body based business was because she wasn’t really sure how to prioritize all of the tasks that she had to do in her business to pick the, to focus her energy on the things that would actually.

 

[00:01:25] Move the needle forward and create income. And so this is something that I worked on with her. It’s also something that I work on with so many of my clients. So if you’re listening to this, you’re probably one of the people who’s like, okay, I have so many things that I need to do. Um, and you’re probably pretty good at keeping yourself busy.

 

[00:01:45] , but sometimes it doesn’t necessarily lead to income and sometimes it leads to an anxiety. So. We’re going to use a recent example with my beautiful client and friend, Laura, to help you

 

[00:02:00] break your distraction patterns and break your avoidance patterns so that you can bring in some more sales, bring in some more income, bring in some more ease.

 

[00:02:09] First thing that we need to know is that when Laura and I began working together, she was navigating some pretty significant, both professional and personal transitions. One of our biggest goals when we started working together was to integrate this new version of herself. She kind of uncovered this new version, had been doing a lot of healing and self reflection, especially around her career and the complexities of her personal life.

 

[00:02:33] And she knew what she really wanted and she was like, okay, cool. How do I take This realization and make sure that I’m integrating that into all of the little actions of my, both my personal life and my professional life. One of our key focuses was increasing her capacity to connect with her body from a sense of calmness and learning to feel her emotions instead of either intellectualizing them or distracting herself from them.

 

[00:03:00] [00:03:01] We’ve had two sessions so far and she is. Already teaching this stuff in a really, really wonderful way. And that’s why I want to share and celebrate because she’s teaching it in a way that, yeah, I think you guys will enjoy. So the other day she caught herself trying to avoid a feeling. She was feeling really like scattered and she’d also been feeling anxious and having some trouble sleeping and things that just felt like a bit off, right? She was feeling super scatterbrained and distracted. So she thought I’ll go sit and I’ll work. That makes sense, right? I have this to do list that I want to work through. But she was sitting down and she just felt like she couldn’t concentrate. . She decided in that moment to do something that her and I had been discussing, that she had been learning from me she actually messaged me and said, Hey, do you have any tips for when you’re feeling distracted?

 

[00:03:51] I was not on my phone, I didn’t answer. But 20 minutes later she messaged and she was like, actually, no, don’t worry. I’ve worked through it.

 

[00:04:00] But also if you want to make a podcast about it, cool. So this has been doing that, but she’d already worked through it. And so I’m going to share how she worked through it [00:04:06] what she actually did. It was she posted on her story in Instagram what she did. I’m going to read it to you. She said, I thought I would send a share example of me getting safe in my body from this morning. I was sitting at the table, half writing in my journal, half doing things on incident, and I realized I was in a distraction mode. There’s something I didn’t want to feel. I use Sheridan’s cheat sheet to see what state my nervous system was in, because honestly, I’m still learning how to identify this stuff and the way I could respond to myself to regulate.

 

[00:04:36] I worked out I needed to move the tense feeling in, of, in and out of my body. I stood up and these are the movings that came out, movements that came out. She was kind of doing like a, like a, a little dance type thing. Um, just intuitive movement. And she kind of opened her chest and then closed it and moved her hips a little bit.

 

[00:04:55] By the end, I felt more present and less tense. From there, I asked myself what feelings or

 

[00:05:00] emotions am I trying to distract myself from? What is my body trying to protect me from? Eventually I came to realize that there is some hurt and pain. I tried to then just sit with the hurt and pain and let it be there, not to change it or anything.

 

[00:05:13] After a few moments of that, I got up, jumped around, and now I’ll attempt to move on with my day. And so she did move on with her day and we spoke about it and she was able to get a lot done and she was able to focus. She was able to stop half journaling, stop half Instagramming. Just, and do what she needed to do, um, just by using this really simple process.

 

[00:05:33] So I’ll go through it again. We’ll identify it here together. Number one, she went to the nervous system PDF and decided and looked and said, how can I respond and regulate? So she used the nervous system PDF, which you’ll find the link to down below. Then she realized from that, that she needed to move her body.

 

[00:05:50] So she moved up and moved her body. Then she asked what feelings or emotions am I trying to distract myself from? What is my body trying to protect me? And she realized that she was feeling

 

[00:06:00] hurt and pain. She let the hurt and pain be there. And then she felt like she could get up and move on with the day.

 

[00:06:06] There we go. That was it. So it’s very simple. If you’re in avoidance and distraction, and it is impacting your ease and impacting your profitability, you need to one, regulate your nervous system to identify feelings and emotions. Three. Identify them by asking, what am I trying to avoid? And three, just let them be there.

 

[00:06:25] And that’s it. So you can literally take this process and you can use this very simple process and very supportive nervous system regulation tool so that you can focus on your work so that you can process big emotions and so that your life becomes so much easier and frees up energy to create more profit with less anxiety.

 

[00:06:44] This is. Not just about being productive. This is not just about making sales. Yes, those things are going to happen. This is more about living as the most embodied, happy version of yourself, and then using that freedom to create income and that

 

[00:07:00] authenticity to create sales that feel organic, that you are proud of, and that you can do without stress.
