[00:00:00] I owe every single piece of success that I’ve had towards my goals to this one technique and understanding.
[00:00:07] In today’s episode, I’m going to share with you the one Nervous system science backed technique to achieving your business goals without burnout, procrastination, or anxiety. This episode is really oriented towards people who are achieving goals, such as looking to gain clarity and confidence in your sales and collaboration strategies, trying to overcome feelings of frustration, confusion, or defeat related to having less income than you really envisioned for yourself at this point in your career.
[00:00:55] Uh, developing a deeper understanding of your own nervous system and its impact on your [00:01:00] business success, as well as mastering a sales strategy that feels really true for you, really aligned, really embodied, really integral, just really natural and flowy and easy, like you’re chatting to a best friend, as well as having a really high conversion rate, meaning that the energy that you’re putting into your business is cultivating sales that support you in your business.
[00:01:22] Finances, um, also for the types of goals that kind of work towards providing value and serving your audience and your community in a way that is authentic for you, for some of you, that’s going to be having a big audience and lots of people and having big impact for others. It’s going to be maybe a little bit less large, but still really, really valuable, but it feels true for you.
[00:01:44] It feels correct. Right. Um, and also. Goals that would kind of include just a sustainable and scalable business model, one that fits inside of the market and fits with, so meaning the market has demand for it, and you’re providing value and [00:02:00] people are paying you for that value. And also it’s sustainable and it’s scalable.
[00:02:05] It’s something that your body wants to show up and do through different phases and seasons of your life. And it’s aligning with what you’re really, really good at, and it’s supporting. How you bring your values and your goals out into the world. And yes, you’re getting paid. Obviously, that’s really important, but that’s probably not the biggest reason.
[00:02:24] And why behind the satisfaction of the fulfillment that you feel inside. And this is something, so those are kind of like the overarching goals that I’m referring to when I say achieve your business goals. If you align with those goals, keep lifting. If you don’t, probably not the best place for you. Love you.
[00:02:41] Um, But let’s look at how we’re going to actually do them. Ooh. So I started using this technique back when I was working as a yoga therapist and I was studying as well. And I was working in a nonprofit and I was working in finance and I founded a nonprofit and [00:03:00] things were busy and I was overcoming, um, complex PTSD.
[00:03:03] And now that I’m kind of saying it all out loud, it kind of sounds like I was going through a lot and I was, but I knew that I needed to move things forward and I had to figure out a way to get there. And so I tried implementing this one thing and then later on, I think I was in some type of copywriting course or something.
[00:03:20] And somebody introduced the science behind this to me, or I think it was a book around it or something like that. And then later on, when I was just developing more of my, I’m going to tell you about it and we’re going to unpack all of those different things. Essentially the trick is to do something every single day that is tiny, smaller than what you think it should be, that moves you towards your goals. The golden rule that I have is that That I use with myself and with clients [00:04:00] is to set a goal, break that down into smaller goals, then break that down into smaller goals, and then identify the things that you would need to do every single day or every single week in order to get you towards that goal.
[00:04:13] And then just doing a little bit of that. Just doing a tiny little bit of that each day, particularly if these things are really difficult. So if you struggle with talking about your offer in person, but you know that you really want to do more networking events and have more in person clients, then you’re going to need to start talking about your offer in person and doing more networking events and having them in in person clients.
[00:04:37] And so your goal might be that, but There are tiny, tiny, tiny little things that you can do, such as maybe even just talking about your offer to yourself in the mirror, in a way that feels really embodied and grounded and sturdy, so your energy is in your belly, your knees are soft, um, to, to help you move towards that goal, or, you know,[00:05:00] Getting, changing the way that you kind of manage the way that you work towards your goal.
[00:05:06] So being able to have a goal or a, a deadline coming up, um, that is difficult and perhaps of high stake without. Being able to relate to your to do list and still get things done without feeling overwhelmed and frustrated and helpless, right? You might just learn to sit with those feelings a little bit more, just 1 percent more every day.
[00:05:29] Just 1 percent more every day. And now let’s like, I’m going to introduce to you the nervous system science behind this, which I later understood in a moment. But first, I want you to consider. What we’re really talking about here is the compound effect of work. We move towards our goals with so much more sustainability when we engage in the compound effect.
[00:05:54] There’s actually a book by Darren Hardy, that explains this very, very well. It’s not [00:06:00] a must read. I think it’s a pretty basic understanding. But it’s, it’s still really, really helpful. But essentially what we’re saying is the compound effect, it’s always happening. We’re always going to be experiencing the summary of our day to day habits.
[00:06:17] Meaning that you can experience the effects and the rewards of day to day habits that support you in moving towards your desired habits, or you can experience the compound effects Doing the things that would move you towards your goals in option a, your hats, you’re making these really small choices on a day to day basis.
[00:06:48] So sitting with my emotions for 30 seconds or saying, or spending three minutes Practicing my pitch or looking at my spreadsheet and my launch [00:07:00]items for 30 minutes and creating a plan or work spending 10 minutes a day working towards content on social media or pitching people for a podcast or writing my book or.
[00:07:14] practicing charging more or figuring out the backend of my, my accounting or practicing not messaging so much because I’m anxious and I want everyone to message me back and sitting with that discomfort. You can take that. Those very small choices on a day to day basis and do them consistently and over time see the results or You can engage in the same Habits that you have currently been doing and do them Consistently over time and end up in a downward spiral You have a choice either way time is gonna happen.
[00:07:57] The compound effect is gonna occur [00:08:00] You are going to be the compound of all of your decisions and actions. And this sounds really, really harsh sometimes, but you, you are kind of a summary of your decisions and your actions and your habits that ends up being who you become at the end of the day, it ends up being the life that you create.
[00:08:17] Now you can be the summary of your habits and your choices in a way that you love and desire, and you can leverage time and consistency to move you closer to your goals.
[00:08:28] Or you can allow it to take you further away. Whatever you choose, it’s going to require a decision. And that decision doesn’t mean that it all gets to be easy. We get to learn how to make it easier. My suggestion to make it easier in this moment, one of the things that I use that I’ve been using is just making it smaller, just making it feel it’s better to do something really, really small consistently over time.
[00:08:51] Then to do nothing at all. So whatever it is you’re thinking about right now, whatever your goal is, identify how to get there, break it down into [00:09:00]smaller goals. So then break it down into smaller goals and then break it down until you know exactly what you need to do every single day. And then half that and then do that.
[00:09:07] I actually use chat. jbt to do this. I’ll say chat. jbt. This is my goal. Can you please break this down into milestones? Can you please provide a summary of the things that I would need to achieve each week in order to experience that milestone by X day? Now, can you please divide that in half and tell me what I need to do each day?
[00:09:28] Charity PT is usually pretty good at it. Actually. Um, sometimes it helps to work with a coach and they can kind of. Make some other suggestions, especially if you’re not really sure what you need to do to get towards your goals. Sometimes that’s something that I support people with in body based business.
[00:09:43] A lot of the time it is, but essentially the question that I want you to ask yourself, the thing you can take away from this is what will things look like in 30 days? If you decide to do one small thing to change today, and you were to be consistent with that for [00:10:00] 30 days, what would change for you? And if you decide not to, what would change then?
[00:10:07] What is the compound effect of a new healthy habit? And what is the compound effect of you just staying where you are? Because the truth is your nervous system, and here’s the science of it, your nervous system adapts and integrates slowly. Your body moves slower than your mind. Your nervous system needs time.
[00:10:28] To adapt to new habits and to new structures and to new ways of being, and it does really well with small changes over time, begins to learn them, it begins to automate them so that you don’t have to think about them so much because right now it will require some decision and maybe some willpower and some momentum.
[00:10:49] It’ll take a little bit of energy to get these things going, but then your body will become so accustomed to them. It becomes automatic. Once we repeat it 000 times, it just becomes [00:11:00] integrated into who we are. We become the version of ourselves that just does that automatically without having to think about it and without having to put energy towards it.
[00:11:08] It’s just who we are and what is done and it’s easy because here is Entrepreneurship does get to be easy and it requires a decision so you can leverage the compound effect. You can have everything change in 30 days or in a year. You can be a victim to the compound effect and be experiencing less of what you want and more of what you don’t in 30 days.
[00:11:40] I know which one you’d prefer. How are you going to make it happen? That’s my invitation to you. So if you are curious about how to approach things like this, the compound effect, making change, um, achieving your
[00:12:00]goals without Anxiety or procrastination or burnout. And particularly if you have an experience of chronic stress or trauma, and you haven’t already looked at episode number 66 called not your usual goal setting advice, you need to go and look at it.
