3 Ways To Prime Your Body (and Nervous System) To Sign More Clients – Somatic Trauma Healing

[00:00:00] Sheridan: Does it ever feel like you are so close, but just not quite there to signing your next client? This episode is for you. By the end of today’s episode, you will learn the often ignored and most important part of preparing to sign more clients. The simple daily actions you cannot miss if you want to increase your income this month and a somatic practice to prime your nervous system for more clients.

[00:00:42] So what does it mean to prime your nervous system or your body? Think of it like this. Your body gives you the emotions, sensations, energy, inspiration, vitality, and thoughts that keep it in its zone of [00:01:00] familiarity because that’s what it thinks is safe. Your body, your nervous system, and even your brain are certainly really concerned with keeping you in the same situation that you are in because it knows how to survive in that situation.

[00:01:17] Your brain, your body, and your nervous system perceive uncertainty as danger because it doesn’t know if it can survive an uncertainty because it’s uncertain. It would much rather be in familiar discomfort than unfamiliar comfort. So in order to do something new, the body needs to feel that it is relatively safe.

[00:01:42] Um, or it will do these sneaky little kind of sabotaging actions that keep you getting away from the thing that you want, or in other words, just keep you in the familiar discomfort of your current reality. To unpack this, go back to episode number 38, which [00:02:00] really breaks down the way that your nervous system affects your business.

[00:02:07] The first thing that we need to understand when we are looking to prime your nervous system, your body to sign more clients is what triggers stress in your day to day life and then practice regulating in the micro movements. Like I said, if your body thinks that something is going to create more stress for it, more responsibility or more tension, it’s going to Give you the thoughts, emotions, sensations, energy, inspiration, and inspiration to stay away from that thing.

[00:02:42] So what you just take a second right now to imagine that you are moving throughout your day. Where do you notice there is stress? Where do you notice that there is anxiety? Just kind of see if you can make a mental note. Maybe perhaps as you move throughout your day [00:03:00] to day, you begin to notice where am I tensioning in my jaw?

[00:03:04] Where am I worrying? Where am I trying to plan? Where am I feeling like I have to get things done? Where am I feeling heavy and full of shame and like something is like gone wrong? Where am I doubting myself? Where am I even just like clenching my toes and my fingers? Because if your body is in a stress response during the day, And it perceives that to be too much.

[00:03:28] It’s not going to feel particularly comfortable giving you the sensations, thoughts, emotions, and inspiration to bring in more work. So to recap, if you go into a flight response throughout the day, so you feel like you have to get away from things, it feels like too much, you have fear, you have anxiety, you have panic, or if you go into a fight response during the day, you feel like you just have to get things done, you feel a little pushy, you feel like this energy of like, go, go, go, I’ve got to get this done, or even angry and irritable, or if you go into a freeze response about the day where [00:04:00] you feel like a deer stuck in the headlights, you’re in that, Indecision and you procrastinating and perfectionism, , things feel heavy and maybe you feel a little bit depressed and a little bit down, then these are signs that your body doesn’t perceive your workday as safe.

[00:04:16] And so it’s going to be reluctant to inspire you and give you the information that you need to Move on to the next, , income bracket phase, sign another client. So what you’re going to do is you’re going to practice regulating. So noticing those micro moments where you get stress. And instead of just pushing through, taking a couple of moments to use a self regulating tool, which you will find in my nervous system, PDF, or on my Instagram, when you have a look at my rails, use a self regulating tool to.

[00:04:49] Regulate and prepare your body to be in a space of regulation and ease so that it feels safe bringing on more responsibility and more [00:05:00] clients. So that’s the first one. The second is that you are going to want to release trauma and emotional energy that you are holding inside of your nervous system.

[00:05:14] This is Freya. She, you guys probably know her if you’ve listened to episodes before. If you’re new, welcome. This is Freya. She is my little co-host that is, Building her business alongside you guys, alongside me and asking the questions that you are probably already thinking. So what does this mean? Good question.

[00:05:34] Trauma and emotional energy gets. Kind of captured inside of the soma of the body, inside of the tissues, the fascia, , and inside of the bones and inside of the entire system of the body, including the nervous system and this energy that gets captured in there because it’s cannot be digested in the moment that it is created or the moment you experience the difficult experience, such as, I don’t know, somebody criticized you or [00:06:00] your, your dad left or your boyfriend said something about your boobs or you, your ancestors who are a part of a really big, war even.

[00:06:09] It experienced that and it stores it in the body and Um, that energy kind of overloads the system and it wants to come out in different ways. It wants to come out. Your body is a self healing organism and it wants to return to the status quo of health. So what happens is that we start to notice kind of symptoms that tell us that the system is overloaded.

[00:06:35] With trauma and emotional energy. There is a long list of them. I’m literally going to tell you the first ones that I wrote down based on my client calls this week, that it seemed to be the most common. The first is feeling overwhelmed then. In a critic perfectionism, feeling frozen or immobilized, or like a beautiful client of mine said today, like a deer stuck in the [00:07:00] headlights, feeling stuck, feeling like things aren’t working, feeling like you cannot make decisions, feeling like you’re doing something wrong, doing or saying what you think you should say.

[00:07:12] So writing posts about what you think you should say, creating business structures about what you think you should do, feeling almost irritated when you get messages from your clients. If you do not feel absolutely on top of the world, every time you get a message from your client, we need to look at what you’re doing.

[00:07:30] You’re doing something that you don’t need to be doing because you should feel excited. Every single message that you get from your client, every single one feeling like the foot is like about to drop or something is about to go wrong. You’re about to lose money or someone’s going to say something kind of waking up with anxiety, maybe around something’s going to go wrong.

[00:07:51] Hustling and overworking. You do not need to work. Most people don’t need to work more than a couple of hours a day. When you are in a service providing. [00:08:00] Like when you really structure your business, you really only need to work a couple of hours a day. And if you’re working more than that, or you’re working to the point of exhaustion or depletion, there’s a sign that there’s something that is going wrong, essentially, that we need to look at that.

[00:08:16] Second, guessing your decisions, feeling more anxious when you slow down, fear of success, avoiding success, almost like dodging around success, fearing, like worrying that your success will cause jealousy or abandonment. Fear of your intuitive gifts, that’s something that I’m working through a lot right now and I’ll be maybe sharing more about later on, or fear that your intuitive gifts or your creativity will suddenly dry up out of nowhere.

[00:08:50] So what we want to do. To prime your nervous system to sign more clients is look at releasing some of the trauma and Emotional [00:09:00] energy that you are holding in the system When we release that what we actually do is we yes We let it go into the earth and into the space around us But more importantly what we do is we take the wisdom from it and we extract The value out of that experience, we integrate it into our new reality.

[00:09:21] And we walk away wiser with more capacity for more love, more pleasure, more joy. And as it relates to this podcast episode, more clients. Number three is actually an embodiment practice that I’m going to take you through. This is step one out of a five step kind of somatic manifestation practice that I have, but it is better than any other traditional manifestation practice or Abraham Hicks or whatever that you’ve tried out there.

[00:09:55] Before we go into that, I’m just going to recap one and two really quick. So the first one is [00:10:00] understand what triggers stress in your day and practice regulating in the micro moments you’ll have an accompanying resource in the show notes to help you with that and To release trauma and emotional energy that you are holding inside of your system Good, okay Let’s do this somatic practice.

[00:10:17] It’ll take a couple of minutes. You can listen to it once if you’re not ready to practice right now and then come back to it and kind of know what you’re doing a little bit better. Or you can take a couple of deep breaths straight away with me. Let’s get into it and practice together. So let’s take three deep breaths.

[00:10:55] This practice is better than any manifestation practice. [00:11:00] You’re going to visualize your goal, the thing you’re working on. Bring it into your mind’s eye. And notice what sensations appear in your body. Hold this for a moment, getting as clear as possible.

[00:11:26] You can pause at any time if you’d like to go slower. Now let go of the visualization and focus on the sensations that you experience inside of your body. Perhaps you can increase them by about 15%. You’re in control.

[00:11:56] Keeping your mind focused on the sensation, just [00:12:00] notice what they are with curiosity. Are they comfortable? Are they uncomfortable? What do you notice?

[00:12:15] Breathing into them, see if you can just allow them to be here. Keeping your mind focused here for at least 90 seconds. Preparing your body to receive the sensations of your vision. If they are largely uncomfortable, it is a sign that we have some work to do around your vision and this step. You might pause, but if they are neutral or comfortable, my invitation to you is just breathe for 90 seconds.

[00:12:51] You’ll hear my voice intermittently.[00:13:00]

[00:13:14] You’re doing really good. Stay with your breath.

[00:13:31] Still breathing, focusing. On those sensations, allowing them to come into your body.

[00:13:52] And there we go. We’ve

[00:13:56] made it. Now you can practice that at least [00:14:00] once a day. And as I said, this is step one of about five in my Somatic Manifestation practice. One that I walk myself through regularly, one that I walk all of my clients through. Um, and as you’re on this journey of becoming this embodied entrepreneur that signs many clients, the right clients, the ones that make you feel excited about checking in to work every single day with energy, with vitality.

[00:00:00] Sheridan: By the end of this episode, you will have clarity on the unseen aspects of your psyche and business that not even your therapist would be able to see and how to use that to create more income and more impact.

 

[00:00:12] You’re about to learn the behind the scenes on what sustainable 5k months looks and feels like exactly how to use therapy and coaching to build a body based business and how to know if my program body based business is worth the investment.

 

[00:00:47] So this episode kind of came into inspiration because I was, two things happened in one week. Number one, I was sitting with one of my [00:01:00] really wonderful, beautiful clients who I’ve been working with for a while now. And she, She came to me because she was really working through a lot of deep trauma that was affecting that was giving her anxiety that was affecting her self esteem that was making her feel like she couldn’t trust herself or her intuition or even the sensations inside of her body.

 

[00:01:24] It was affecting her sleep and it was affecting her at work and she was in the middle of making all of these big. Professional decisions and life decisions and relational decisions. And she was having anxiety about it. And we’ve gone through a process of really working through a lot of that pain and discomfort and trauma that was influencing the way that she’s been relating to life and herself.

 

[00:01:50] She sat down and she goes, she came in, she had like this big smile on her face and all of these things had been happening and she’d been writing inside of our [00:02:00] telegram tech support, all of these amazing celebrations. And, you know, we go through the celebrations and she kind of looks at me and she’s like, you know, Sharon, is this normal?

 

[00:02:09] Like. After we’ve done all of his deep work, all of these amazing things are just falling into place so easily. That’s like, is this normal? And I kind of looked at her and you know, I answered in the way that I answer in a coaching session and in the back of my mind, I was like, yes. And I said this as well.

 

[00:02:36] I was like, yes, yes, this is what happens. We get to a point where we work through all of this heavy stuff and just all of the things fall into place. And we’re going to come a full cycle as to how this applies to business, but all of the things fall into place and it feels so good. Oh, it feels so easy and it feels so good.[00:03:00]

 

[00:03:02] 90 percent of the time, sometimes it doesn’t.

 

[00:03:10] Yeah, there is a path to get there. There is a path to get there. We’re going to talk about that path, but it happened coinciding with something that happened to me personally. And I was, you know, doing my work and I was doing, a somatic practice that I do around work, um, and how I feel about it and I teach it to my clients as well.

 

[00:03:30] And I was kind of doing this practice and I was noticing something. I was thinking, Oh my God, I am bored in my business. I am bored. I’m so bored. I’m the type of person who needs a lot of simulation. Um, call it like Gemini rising or gate nine in human design or.

 

[00:03:55] ADHD, whatever it is. Um, I’ve really gone from overthinking [00:04:00] absolutely everything into my work and feeling overwhelmed by all of it and never being able to turn my mind off, like racing thoughts at night, dreaming about work, um, you know, being that person that’s like at 2 a. m. Oh, I’m just going to like, think about this real and plan this real, feeling more anxious as I rested on the weekends.

 

[00:04:18] If I let myself rest , I’ve gone from that to actually being bored in my business because now my business is so easy. And it’s so simple and every single month I hit my income goals and I have lots of free time and I love all of my clients and I’m kind of smiling as I say this because it’s all of my dreams come true and now that it’s here I’m like cool what’s next but I’ve gotten bored in it and it’s not a bad thing like I’m not bored by my actual clients I’m just ready for the next thing um which is my book but that’s For another episode, but this ability to feel so entertained with being [00:05:00] bored and feel so entertained with all of these sudden celebrations and sudden amazing things has happened because I have combined the best.

 

[00:05:09] The absolute best of the therapeutic world with the coaching world to create body based business. Body based business is a one on one program. It’s a four month coaching program that helps you create sustainable, simple and strategic 5k months using nervous system awareness and trauma healing. It is a somatic therapy, coaching, business, and business coaching.

 

[00:05:35] What does that mean? Let’s look at what traditional therapy does. Traditional therapy, Is the treatment of mental conditions by verbal communication and interaction, according to Google. And depending on the type of therapy, somatic work may be involved. So work, including your body may be involved. However, even if somatic work was [00:06:00] involved, which is kind of like the, like the gold standard for, for therapeutic processes at this point, even if it is involved.

 

[00:06:09] Is that therapist going to be under, going to be able to understand the nuances of online business, visibility, entrepreneurship, income, ebbs and flows, um, how religious trauma or financial trauma or even birth trauma or your partnership or your, all of these things affect your business and how your business in turn affects them.

 

[00:06:32] Chances are no. And this is actually quite a big problem. When you enter into entrepreneurship, your trauma and dysregulation will show up. I am yet to meet a single person who has gotten out of this. Like it’s going to show up because we’re talking about how people perceive you, your situation in the tribe, your resources, your security, your sense [00:07:00] of self, your sense of faith, your shame, your confidence, all of these things, it’s going to come up and This is why I’ve created, it’s not why I’ve created.

 

[00:07:12] It’s why I was kind of invited into BBB from my clients and from people who saw what I was doing and said, Hey, you have something really special here. You need to do more of it. You need to help entrepreneurs with this. And that special thing is this hybrid between somatic therapy and business coaching.

 

[00:07:33] So let’s just look at what somatic therapy is. Somatic therapy is a body centric approach that works by helping to relieve stress, tension and trauma from the body. Somatic therapy. It includes a lot. It’s a umbrella name for a lot of different techniques and tools that maybe you’ve heard of Polly bagel theory or somatic experiencing or yoga therapy, um, [00:08:00] focusing.

 

[00:08:00] These are things that are Eastern. Medicine has used for hundreds and thousands of years, and we’ve known that it’s been supportive, but now modern day science and western science recognizes somatic therapy as the most effective way to create change for good.

 

[00:08:22] The people who come to work with me come to work with me because they want to feel grounded for good. They want change for good, and they want to be able to take on the challenges of their life and their entrepreneurial journey while filling clarity, space, and ease.

 

[00:08:37] They want an approach that will keep working long. After the time with me is up. And this is why we focus on somatic approach. Evidence consistently shows us that what happens to you in your life is stored in your mind and your body. Therefore addressing the body through the nervous system and emotions is a much more effective and efficient approach to healing and

 

[00:09:00] expansion than simply talking or contemplating or writing.

 

[00:09:04] or thinking or educating yourself on the issues, which is more what traditional therapy or personal development does. If you are doing traditional therapy or personal development, um, even mindset work alone, it is possible that past events are not being integrated and healed, which will result in the same patterns resurfacing over and over again, or you feeling like you are stuck.

 

[00:09:33] We’re not here to be stuck. We’re here to expand. This is why a body based business has this somatic component. It also has a business coaching component. So business coaching is a process in which a professional coach guides a business person in the pursuit of their work goals.

 

[00:09:48] What does this mean in our context? Basically, Like one of my clients said last night, she said, buddy based business has helped me create a business plan that is informed by my nervous system. [00:10:00] It is a business plan that I can execute. It is a business plan that I am proud of their business systems and structures that I am proud of.

 

[00:10:08] And, and she looked at me and she had like this beautiful eyes and she goes, I could not have done this without you, Sheridan, because we have sat every week and we have said, okay, here’s the business plan that we have created. Here are the goals. Here are the actions that need to be executed. How are we going to get this business person, you?

 

[00:10:31] Towards that goal. What support do you need? What clarity, what guidance? How are we gonna get you to that goal? And we have repeated that until there’s been so much momentum that she’s signing clients like never before. She’s expressing herself, like never before. She’s able to make decisions like never before.

 

[00:10:50] The procrastinating, the procrastination, and the perfectionism completely gone. And this will be true for you too, when you start working inside with me in body-based [00:11:00] business. So let’s just do a little summary. We work inside a body based business through a hybrid model of somatic therapy and business coaching.

 

[00:11:13] We look at how your body, which by the way, holds seven generations of information relates to business so that we can create profitable and anxiety free. Months in your business. When you work with me, we look at the deeper pains that every single human on earth holds through business This can be compared to like I don’t know even if you went to like say a general EMDR Therapist focusing on grief.

 

[00:11:42] Let’s just say that you’re there you’re working with somebody like that because you’ve gone through some grief in your life, right? They’re not gonna have the same level of connection to the online business world in the way that I do So we’re taking that speciality and we’re looking at how it is affecting you and your [00:12:00] business and how your business is affecting these specific groups.

 

[00:12:04] This is extremely important because you can go to therapy for years and work on All of these issues, you can do plant medicine, you can do the PASANA retreats for 10 days, but until you are looking intentionally at how these things play out in relationship to your sales, to your marketing, to receiving payment, to working with team members, to structuring your products, et cetera, you are going to have blind spots.

 

[00:12:34] It is not a bad thing. You haven’t done anything wrong. You simply haven’t shined light there. So yes, the tools that we will use inside a body based business are similar to some that you may have used in somatic therapy if you’ve done it in the past. But the nuances and the context that we do this work through are not the same.

 

[00:12:55] In saying that, you do not have to have any experience with any type of therapy in order to work with [00:13:00] me. It’s important to note that your therapist just doesn’t have the context of like, for example, Um, being triggered by like, she wouldn’t understand like the nuances of what an Instagram post, um, can trigger inside of somebody who is selling their product group costs in the same way that I would understand because of my experience, because of my focus, and because that we’re looking at a larger amount of data.

 

[00:13:28] Now I also mentioned to you that I was going to share exactly what sustainable 5k months feels like and looks like. So I want you to take a couple of deep breaths, take a moment. I’m going to describe to you some of the circumstances that my clients have recently described to me, and you can feel in your body if that feels like something that you would like.

 

[00:13:51] Day to day decisions and actions are more joyful and full of ease because I can make them quickly. Using the wisdom of my body, knowing

 

[00:14:00] which ones are aligned and which aren’t like knowing whether to focus on showing up in Facebook groups, or if it makes sense to make another freebie or go to the beach, I feel safe receiving money coming in at various times during the month.

 

[00:14:15] And I’m able to hold the influx of money in my savings plus my business reserves and also my investments.

 

[00:14:25] I feel like I can glide through dips in sales or unexpected results, or when my personal life kind of melts into how I work in the day in my business, or with a regulated nervous system, which makes creative and analytical thinking so much easier.

 

[00:14:44] . I feel so grounded in my vision and I know that it’s possible for me even when sometimes I feel like I’m knocked back or I receive criticism or I start comparing myself. These feel more like little pebble pebbles that I can step over [00:15:00] along my road to self expression and success.

 

[00:15:06] I’m able to wake up in the mornings before my alarm. Cause I slept really, really well knowing that my clients, my finances, my family, and my vision are taken care of. I can tap into my intuition in a microsecond of focus, giving me my new discernment between fear, grief, shame, or divine guidance.

 

[00:15:31] I feel healthy, strong, full of energy and inspired by life and business.

 

[00:15:38] And I’m able to pinpoint the somatic, strategic, and energetic blueprint. And this is my, this is my biggest one. I am able to pinpoint the somatic strategic and energetic blueprint. My specific unique business needs to move the needle forward and learn how to apply them in the moments that it matters the most.

 

[00:15:59] So

 

[00:16:00] in buddy based business, we will move you towards your goals and create momentum through mastery. We will have touch points in calls and messaging to make sure that you have someone by your side to work through these challenges with make decisions, help hold the vision and create momentum and consistency to actually get you there.

 

[00:16:19] And while it is therapeutic at times, it is also coaching and future oriented towards achieving your goals. Yes, we will take the past into account to understand how it informs your daily actions, your lifestyle, your mental, physical, and emotional health and what your business needs to make money. But we’re not going to unpack it for hours and sit in the ick of it.

[00:00:00] Sheridan: Your sales calls don’t feel sticky because they’re not in alignment or because you’ve got the wrong script. They feel sticky because you were trying to stick to a strategy that wasn’t made for you.

 

[00:00:10] By the end of this episode, you will know the one and only way your future clients make decisions. It’s not what you think, what you must know about sales. If you want to make them without feeling icky, pushy, or guilty, and the three questions to ask yourself to feel more confidence in all of your sales conversations.

 

[00:00:44] Sheridan: There was a time during the more new parts of my entrepreneurial journey, particularly online when I brought all of my work online and I started really doing sales calls where I would [00:01:00] show up to these sales calls feeling anxious or I would kind of avoid them. Avoid them and I would pursue like sales in the DMS or I would think I don’t need to prove myself I don’t have conversations with people about sales or I would show up and I would always end these calls Feeling icky because one part of me felt like if they said yes to working with me That I had like done something wrong.

 

[00:01:30] It doesn’t make logical sense But I had like done something wrong or that this was just a one time thing and the other shoe was about to drop. Or if the person that I was thinking about working with didn’t end up working with me, I would kind of berate myself afterwards. And all of this happened to kind of feed this part of me that felt increasing amounts of anxiety and discomfort around sales conversations to the point where I stopped having [00:02:00] them because I stopped speaking. I stopped inviting people to have these conversations. So I stopped making sales and I burnt out. Oh, I. It took a really long time to unpack this one. I also went through a period where I tried to perfect the sales script. I thought, you know, if I could just say these specific things and if I could just be this specific way, and if I had the right amount of availability in my calendar, and if my product was this, and I spoke about this beforehand and I spoke about this afterwards, I should just kind of get all of the things right, then, then I would, would, I would make the sale and then I would be a success and then everything would be okay.

 

[00:02:39] And this seemed kind of normal, right, because I’ve noticed so many other people go through this and in fact, there’s so many tools and resources on the internet where we can. Like the people sell you their sales script or people ask about them when they talk about them while they sell you messaging and say that it’s everything is easier when you have better messaging and

 

[00:03:00] all of these things, the environment that a lot of entrepreneurs find themselves in, especially if you’re on the internet, kind of tends towards invoking or inviting us to consume and spend more money on perfecting this sales problem.

 

[00:03:18] And. Yeah. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that. I think they’re really valuable resources. I don’t know if they’re always the most helpful. And the reason that I say this is speaking both from personal experience and then the experience of hundreds of colleagues and dozens of clients who have had this exact same problem.

 

[00:03:41] The amount of sales calls that I was doing was rising, sorry, it was staying the same and but the amount of people who are actually ended up working with me was lowering, but my anxiety was rising around it and you and I are both smart enough to know that there’s something

 

[00:04:00] kind of beneath the surface if everything seems like it’s supposed to be going well, yet it’s not.

 

[00:04:07] And you have anxiety. At that point, that anxiety was making my sales calls really awkward and ineffective.

 

[00:04:20] I’m going to talk in a little while about what I truly believe sales calls are for and, and what your job is on a sales call, but just to give some context first, so I did what I often do. Sometimes I avoid it first, sometimes I procrastinate it, but I do what I often do. And. I took one of the therapeutic practices that I had have learned in many of my trainings.

 

[00:04:49] It’s the one that I teach my clients. I took myself to my bedroom and I did this somatic inquiry and I found that there was this. This wounded

 

[00:05:00] inner child that was running the show the more inquiry that I did towards this inner child, I found that she was. Really worried about not having money. that was just because of her past experience, you know, I didn’t grow up with a lot of money.

 

[00:05:18] Um, it was difficult at a lot of times for me and my family. And, uh, as. I became closer to having money come in, what would normally happen, what was happening at this time was his inner child was always coming in and kind of taking control of the steering wheel because she was so anxious that we weren’t going to have money again, that we were going to have to rely on the government for food support and things like that.

 

[00:05:48] She was so nervous. That she felt that she couldn’t trust me to do sales calls. And so that’s why she pursued the scripts and the marketing. She spent money on these and she like worked with that coach and XYZ [00:06:00] didn’t trust me to bring that money in and hold it and keep it so that she would be safe. . That’s how I really discovered what sales is for me. I discovered it through a little bit of anxiety, through some pain, through some trauma healing, and I’ve completely transformed the way that I see sales. Sales for me now is. Oh, we’ll talk about it more in a sec, but just fun and nourishment and curiosity and innocence.

 

[00:06:29] And it feels glittery and it just feels like talking to friends, which is really awesome. And it feels like helping people, whether or not they end up working with me or not. It feels like the most natural thing in the world. But I got to this point through a little bit of pain. So the first thing I want you to know is like, if you are experiencing a little bit of discomfort around your income and your sales, then I want you to know that that’s normal and that’s okay.

 

[00:06:55] You haven’t done anything wrong. You’re in the right place and you’re right on time.

 

[00:07:00] You’re right on time. So, when we use sales scripts, what often happens is it actually creates kind of this pressure in your system, your nervous system that can lead to a fight or flight response. It adds this, and what happens is kind of this external, um, quality of like, okay, I’m going to use, I’m going to use this trick.

 

[00:07:29] The script I’ve learned this thing, and we then have internal dialogues and experiences that can activate this fight or flight response. And now a fight response, when you are using a sales script, looks like being that pushy salesperson, something that I know you really want to avoid. That flight response often looks like.

 

[00:07:56] Um, completely avoiding sales conversations,

 

[00:08:00] feeling anxious on the calls. That was kind of more my, that was more what happened to me. Then we have the freeze response, which can also happen because we still have pressure in the system. If it doesn’t get out through a fight or flight response, it comes into, it manifests as a freeze response and the freeze response with sales often looks like procrastination.

 

[00:08:27] So it’s all just kind of like, it’s like you in your business. It’s doing everything, but the thing that’s going to get you a sales call. And I think, you know, if you know, when you’re doing that, you’re doing everything, but the thing that’s going to make sales, your content’s awesome. Your business plan’s awesome.

 

[00:08:45] You’ve made your product. You’ve like figured it all out, but you’re not making sales. It also looks and feels like being full of shame. When you’re on sales calls, you’re having sales conversations. This [00:09:00] one sometimes you don’t even notice that you’re that you’re actually embodying shame because you’re so used to it I’ve definitely been there and it’s a tricky place to be because your animal body is communicating to somebody else’s animal body That, oh, hey, I’m, I’m in shame over here.

 

[00:09:20] Here we have, we have shame. What their animal body does, which everyone’s animal body does, which is do everything it possibly can to avoid shame. And unfortunately it means that no matter how perfect you get everything, they’re not going to want to work with you. It’s not going to feel right. Cause they want to avoid shame.

 

[00:09:40] You guys are both probably going to walk away from the call. Like. Almost in confusion of like, yeah, like we’re just going to see what happens. And you guys don’t work together. And it was crappy for both of you. What’s important to know. And this is what is really how I have come to [00:10:00] believe. And I’m inviting you to try this belief on for yourself.

 

[00:10:03] See how it feels. Through my experience, having many, many sales calls and doing a large amount of somatic inquiry around it, I have come to the belief that your job as a salesperson isn’t to make somebody say yes to you. It is to support, to support them in their decision making process and share your services with confidence.

 

[00:10:25] I’m going to say that again. Your job as a salesperson is not to make somebody say yes to you. It is to support them in their decision making process and share your services with confidence. So why is it so important that we pay attention to the nervous system while we’re doing this? Because if you are in one of those stress responses, you are thinking about the outcome.

 

[00:10:54] You are thinking about yourself. You are thinking about what you need. [00:11:00] And how to make it to go the right way, either through pushing, through being anxious, through avoidance, through procrastination, or for just showing up with shame. Cause we show up with shame really because we think shame is going to protect us.

 

[00:11:17] And so a regulated nervous system on the flip side actually wants to connect with others and support them. We have that engagement system inside of a regulated, sorry, we have inside of, yeah. Inside of our nervous system we have a We have a, an engagement system when the body perceives stress, it wants to run away or wants to fight or wants to freeze.

 

[00:11:46] It doesn’t want to engage when you are making connection through sales in order for them to feel embodied and anxiety free. And for order for you to do them consistently without burning out or without feeling off, you need to be coming

 

[00:12:00] from a regulated nervous system. Where engagement is a natural by product of just being who you are.

 

[00:12:08] Where connecting with others is a natural by product of just being who you are. And where supporting them is a natural by product of being who you are. And where feeling confident in what you can support them with and what you cannot. It’s just a natural product because then when you are in that really regulated space and you’re coming from that wise self, you recognize yourself as an expert and you want to guide people to your tools when it makes sense.

 

[00:12:39] And if it ever makes sense to guide them somewhere else, then you will do that because your goal, when you are coming from a regulated nervous system into sales and you’re not coming in with any sneaky little parts of you trying to manipulate the situation for some underlying reason that they believe is necessary.

 

[00:12:57] You’re coming in as an expert. [00:13:00] I know what I’m good at. I’m really awesome at this. You recognize yourself as an expert. You embody the expert. You embody that authority. You know what you’re great at,

 

[00:13:15] and you know how to support people, and you want to support people, and you want to guide them to the correct support. It’s not about trying to make them say yes, or work through objections, or say the right things, or like, like, no, that’s important, I guess, we’ll, we’ll speak about it when we work together a bit.

 

[00:13:33] You showing up ready to connect to another human being and what they need and how you can support them while recognizing yourself fully as an expert is the key to more sales. It is not another sales script. Think about that right now. What would happen to yourselves if you could fully Without a shadow of a doubt, recognize yourself as an expert, feel [00:14:00] into that authority in your body and hold it, hold it in difficult conversations.

 

[00:14:05] When somebody says, I don’t know if I can afford that. I don’t know if I could have time. What would happen if you could hold that embodiment of, I know who I am. I know what I’m great at, and I have enough space and resiliency and regulation and wisdom inside to support you. In working through your concerns about money or your concerns about time and really helping you make the best decision for you because a concern about money.

 

[00:14:43] That’s a thought. It may or may not be objectively true. We would have to have more conversation to find out. But if my anxiety or my procrastination or my shame or my avoidance doesn’t allow me to have those difficult conversations with love and

 

[00:15:00] connection and engagement and ease and, and fun, then how am I ever going to help you make a decision about what you’re going to do for the rest of your life?

 

[00:15:07] I can’t. Because my wounded parts are taking over. So if you could show up 100 percent fully recognizing yourself as an expert, what would change? What would change? What would change is you could have sales conversations with so much clarity and pride and regulation and no anxiety at all. No anxiety at all.

 

[00:15:32] What if you felt fully embodied in those sales conversations? What would happen? And here’s another question. What do you need to overcome or to experience or to release in order to do so? What old story is your body holding that is telling you that you cannot support more people? What old story is your body holding about money, about receiving, about nourishment, or about

 

[00:16:00] responsibility that is running the show?

 

[00:16:05] And how are you going to go beyond mindset work? And trying to logic or argue with your mind? Which is a losing fight. Just to tell it that it is nothing to worry about. How will you go beyond just the back and forth in your head? To release these stories, to embody the expert, to regulate your nervous system and to do the inner work that allows you to show up as a space holder for sales conversations.

 

[00:16:32] Because sales conversations are conversations that change lives.

 

[00:16:40] Sales conversations are conversations where you exchange your expertise, your confidence, your guidance in order to support somebody else and you have fun doing it. And it has to come from your body. It has to come from your

 

[00:17:00] nervous system. Otherwise your animal body is going to communicate with the other person’s animal body.

 

[00:17:04] Even though you guys are talking forever, it may say something completely different. And your sales calls are going to feel out of alignment because in a way they are, they’re out of, there’s no congruency, your animal body, your nervous system isn’t congruent with the offer that you’re sharing or with the thing that you’re saying.

 

[00:17:24] And this is why we use a somatic cell strategy. We pull it down into the body, into the primal parts of the nervous system. The somatic sales strategy is a sales and marketing strategy that leverages the power of your body, your nervous system, plus strategic actions to support you getting your services in front of the right people and helping them decide that they are ready to work with you.

 

[00:17:48] This is the somatic sales strategy that has helped clients of mine make sales that feel too good to be true. Um, because they were like literally just themselves, not Nicky, not pushy, just [00:18:00] themselves. It has helped my clients create marketing plans that they can execute and lead to clients without feeling overwhelmed by their to do lists.

 

[00:18:08] And it has had clients drop into their lap even after inviting them to work with other coaches. This somatic style strategy is a key component because you are an entrepreneur because. You need. You like money, you want, you like eating your food, you like paying your rent, you like buying things for other people.

[00:00:00] From one recovering perfectionist to another, these are the seven steps you need to know so that you can stop your thought loops, ground into self love, wisdom, and take action that will create profit. In your business. By the end of this episode, you will know the connection between your perfectionism and nervous system, the underutilized backdoor ways to calm perfectionism, and the number one question to ask to get you to stop your perfectionism in its tracks.

 

[00:00:27] Okay, so this episode is gonna be a quick one because I’m gonna give you seven steps that I want you to implement today. But before we can do those steps, invitation to look into how perfectionism shows up in your life.

 

[00:01:00] The ways that my perfection show perfectionism shows up in my life is I notice that sometimes I’ll be like doing a task.

 

[00:01:07] This literally happened to me this morning at a cafe. I’m doing a task and then I have to kind of, let’s, I was writing, , the FAQs for my, that are going to be on my website and. There was, I had asked myself, Oh, write this FAQ and I started writing and it was hard to answer. And so I just looked at my phone for six minutes and I realized at the end of those six minutes, Oh, I diverted my attention because my perfectionist is worried that I’m going to put some words on this Google document and they are going to be wrong.

 

[00:01:40] She’s worried. They’re going to be wrong. Okay. My perfectionism also tries to get me to stop doing things because she’s worried that I’m going to fail. Failure would be catastrophic in her mind. She also is really mean to me. I love her a lot, but my perfectionist part can kind of berate [00:02:00] me. And it holds me to really high standards, which is sometimes very helpful and sometimes not helpful because holding me to those high standards actually stops me from achieving.

 

[00:02:10] The high standards, , which is an interesting catch 22, it can be a lot of anxiety, a lot of procrastination, and a lot of tension. In the body. Yeah. Sometimes it’s difficult, but that’s okay. Because today we’re going to be looking at the things that I ask myself when my perfectionist part is very active, how I handle a perfectionist day.

 

[00:02:38] So the first thing that I do is I ask what nervous system state is this coming from? There is a difference between the flavor of my perfectionism, depending on my nervous system state. When my nervous system is regulated, my little perfectionist thoughts can pop in and I will actually love them. I will actually respond to them and be like, Oh my God, thank you for showing me this is so important.

 

[00:02:58] Thank you for showing me my,

 

[00:03:00] my values and my needs. Thank you. I love you. Oh my God. I love my brain. When I am in more of a fight response, my perfectionist is really mean to me. It’s like, she’s like fighting against me. She’s super critical and it can be almost kind of like these little micro paper like, um, what are those things?

 

[00:03:20] It’s like little, it’s like death by paper cots when I’m in that fire response. She is a mean fiery thing. She will say things to me that I will, I would rather not put on. This podcast and there’s the flight response when my perfectionist is in the flight response. It’s like I have to get everything done right now.

 

[00:03:38] Everything is urgent and it all has to be completely perfect and I can’t do that. So normally what happens is I don’t stay in that flight response very long. I often go to a freeze response and when my perfectionist is active, when I’m in that freeze response, holy moly, shame cycle, like let’s go. She’s, she’s mean, but it feels heavy.

 

[00:03:58] She’s mean, but it feels like

 

[00:04:00] I’m, there’s something wrong with me. Like I failed, like something is about to go horribly wrong and it’s about to be my fault. And, and, and everything, just my eyes feel heavy. My body feels heavy. It’s just this icky gooey, like I’m in quicksand. It’s awful. And so the first thing that I need to know is.

 

[00:04:18] What nervous system state is my perfectionist coming from now, I have a nervous system PDF that will be very helpful for you that I will link in the show notes. And I also have numerous different episodes on how to recognize how different nervous system state activations playing out in your business that I recommend that you listen to.

 

[00:04:36] If you haven’t listened to, you need to listen to these episodes. I will also link them in the show notes. By having that education and plus the awareness that you have of yourself, you’re going to be able to answer what nervous system state your perfectionist is coming from when they activate. Then we’re going to look at what does my body need to balance so once we’ve identified the nervous system state You’re going to

 

[00:05:00] use once again, you can use the nervous system PDF to balance it.

 

[00:05:05] So I’m just going to speak for today my And like the, it’s like the, almost like an A, D, H D type distraction that I ended up my, my in. So I was like working and my perfectionist comes in and I distract myself. And that’s very typical of a flight response. It’s like, let’s just distract because I know that if I’m gonna be in this space, it’s gonna be too overwhelming to me.

 

[00:05:30] I’m gonna like get away from the threat, which was my laptop at that point. And so, What does my body need to balance? I noticed that and I kind of asked myself. Okay flight response. Yep That makes sense feeling a little bit of anxiety. Okay, cool. I’m gonna do some really long exhales. I was in public I was sitting that very close next to a group of men that were having a wonderful time and I did some really deep exhales deep exhales put my feet on

 

[00:06:00] the ground soles on the ground Okay, here I am.

 

[00:06:03] I grounded because I was flighty I grounded and then I asked the question, is this protecting me from any emotion? A lot of the time, perfectionism is protecting us from feeling something very inconvenient to feel. So this morning it was kind of protecting me from, honestly, it was protecting me from It thought that it was protecting me because it thought that it would be protecting other people because it felt like what I was about to say was going to be too bold and it was protecting me from feeling the fear of being bold, of saying something that would cause an impact in somebody else’s life because for parts of me, very small inner child parts of me, it was very scary.

 

[00:06:58] To call it just

 

[00:07:00] to see people so deeply and to say certain things because it would mean that they would have a reaction and sometimes that reaction, uh, was difficult for me to experience as a young child and that’s why my people pleasing came up and so it was like this perfectionism that wanted the people pleaser to write that answer, but I don’t want to write things from a people pleaser space anymore.

 

[00:07:22] So it was afraid of what would happen if I didn’t people please as I was writing on my website. And so then the next question comes in, which is, what is the story that the body is telling you? So for some people that’s going to be, well, if I get this perfect, I get praise and love. And for me this morning it was, well, if I can make my language small or if I can downplay the power of my work, then I will be safe.

 

[00:07:48] That’s what my body was telling me in the moment. And the next question that I asked myself was, Okay, well, what is a new empowering belief that can replace this [00:08:00] story?

 

[00:08:04] The one that I landed on is not a new one. This is a work that I’ve, I’ve been doing. And so all of this happened in less than 60 seconds in the middle of a cafe this morning. And I came back to my belief. And at the moment, the thing that I’m working on is it’s safe to be bold. It’s safe to be bold. And so I felt that safety in my body and I resourced and I remembered the other day I was dancing and I had a really wonderful friend of mine say to me, Oh, you’re so bold.

 

[00:08:31] And she, she was admiring my boldness and you guys sometimes admire my boldness too. And I know that I, I’ve struggled with this, like I’m human. So I grounded into that. I felt that in my body, I used my resourcing tools until that felt true until the parts of me felt nourished. I did not bypass myself.

 

[00:08:51] And then I said, what action will reinforce that belief? And I started writing again, and then I took the action. And that was it.

 

[00:09:00] And that like, I did all of those things in 60 seconds. Yes, I’ve been practicing them prior, but you can literally re you can completely flip and stop your perfectionism in its track in 60 seconds when you ask yourself these seven questions.

 

[00:09:17] And when you do it so many times over that it becomes automatic. It’s worth mentioning. It takes 300 repetitions of something to To create a habit. And it takes 3000 repetitions of something to embody it. This is a part of the integration. So I’m going to ask you to practice this 300 times. Yay. Go play.

 

[00:09:42] I’m going to repeat the questions back to you so you can write them down or you can just like mark this little. It’s part of the podcast and come back to it when you’re, you’re feeling the things. The questions are what nervous system status is coming from? What does my body need to balance and regulate?[00:10:00]

 

[00:10:00] Is this protecting me from an emotion? What story is the body telling? What is the new empowering belief that I can replace the story with? [00:00:00] Sheridan: As much as you desire a higher income, there are certain signs that show us that your nervous system is simply just not ready for it. Here they are. By the end of this episode, you will know exactly the most misunderstood sign your nervous system isn’t ready for more money, the nervous system mechanics behind the most common reason and how to prepare your nervous system for more money.

 

[00:00:37] And what you absolutely have to know if you want to increase your income this week. This month and then over and over again for the rest of your life.

 

[00:00:46] This first one was a little bit of a rude awakening for me. There was a part of me that used to think that if I planned, worried, and stressed enough for money, then that would be the path to money. In fact, sometimes [00:01:00] I still, I still fall into that. You know, I’m not perfect, I’m learning these things alongside of you guys and actively integrating them as much as you are.

 

[00:01:09] But there was a part of me that thought that if I worried about money, if I stressed about it, then that was a sign that I was on my way to making more of it. Because of course, if I could think about it enough and strategize enough, then I would get there in the end. Yeah, wrong. Being worried and stressed about money is a really.

 

[00:01:45] So when we’re feeling that worry and that stress about it, what we tend to do is we focus on being worried and stressed about it, or we focus on reducing our stress, or

 

[00:02:00] we focus on like by. Doing things either just yoga and meditating or by fixing the problem and trying to make more money now There are times when that is appropriate and correct and the best paths of action However, I think it depends like how effective that’s going to be will depend on your intention behind it So if you’re noticing that you’re worried and stress about money, it’s simply a sign that you’ve reached your upper limit capacity of the amount of Money, pleasure, safety, happiness that you could have.

 

[00:02:33] So the amount that your body feels safe receiving, and it’s also a sign that your, your body doesn’t totally feel safe right now. If you remember, we go back into, I think episodes 37 to 40, we talk about the four different nervous system state signs that. Show us that our body isn’t feeling currently very safe with our goals and that it’s not going to give us the thoughts, feelings and emotions to get there.

 

[00:02:58] So, if we’re

[00:03:00] feeling worried and stressed, depending on the flavor of that worried and stress, it might be a sign of a fight response. If we’re like, really like, I gotta get this done. Could be a sign of a flight response. If we’re more like, I’m really afraid that I’m not going to, I feel really anxious about this.

 

[00:03:15] Or it could be more of that freeze immobilization response where it’s like, well, I just cannot do this. This is just not going to work at all. When your body is in a chronic state of stress and perceived lack of safety, it’s going to be very difficult for it to focus the resources.

 

[00:03:37] Um, in building a business in a really nourishing way, it doesn’t mean you can’t make money. You can, but there’s a difference between making money in a way that is nourishing and life giving. Meaning you feel more vital, meaning you have more aliveness, meaning you feel more embodied, meaning you feel really good, you have great relationships.

 

[00:03:57] And making money in a way that is [00:04:00] life depleting, meaning you feel burnt out, you feel anxious, you feel on edge, it’s really hard to relax, you can’t take naps, you snap at your family. You are here listening to Embodied Entrepreneur because you want to do it in a way that is life giving. My entire program, Body Based Business, is about how we can build businesses in a way that honors our body and brings us vitality and nourishment to the body without sacrificing income.

 

[00:04:29] And so, when you notice that you’re worried about stress and money, I want you to look at it a little bit differently. Instead of seeing it as I need to fix the problem of the money, I’m going to invite you to see it as, Oh, what is my body telling me? What is it telling me? Is there a fear that is coming up?

 

[00:04:54] Is there a should that is coming up? Is there

 

[00:05:00] anything going really well in my life that might be? uncomfortable. Is there anything that I might be feeling in my body that might be uncomfortable? Is there a knowing deep down inside that I’m avoiding?

 

[00:05:17] Because sometimes we experience worry and stress because there’s something inside that needs to be followed. And then sometimes we experience it just because we’re learning to feel safe. And so in that case, my question would be, instead of how can you focus on releasing the worry and stress, the question that I want you to ask yourself is, how can I help myself feel more safe and grounded at this time?

 

[00:05:45] Because if you would like your money to be ready, your body to be ready for more money, and I’m going to assume you are, We want the body to feel safe and nourished and supported with this income level with a tiny little bit of healthy stress

 

[00:06:00] so that it feels motivated to the next income level. Healthy stress isn’t that you feel worried and stressed about it.

 

[00:06:08] It’s more like a little fire under you that’s like, oof, I’m really excited for the next step. Oh, I cannot wait to have it. That’s what we’re talking about when we talk about healthy stress and from an embodied place pursuing income goals. So, that is the most misunderstood sign that your nervous system isn’t ready for more money.

 

[00:06:30] I want to talk about the nervous system mechanics behind the most common reason and how to prepare your nervous system for more money. And so the last thing we’re going to touch on today in our little episode is what you need to know if you’re going to increase your income this week, month, and the rest of your life.

 

[00:06:47] The number one thing to know whenever you want to increase your income is that whatever you are currently making in like your income at the moment, whatever your current bank statement says,

 

[00:07:00] that is your current capacity for money.

 

[00:07:04] And so if you. If you ever want to increase your income this week, this month, the rest of your life, the question that you need to ask yourself is how do I increase my capacity for money? There are so many ways to answer this question and some of them are going to be things like Like some of them are going to be strategic.

 

[00:07:23] How do I increase my capacity? While I would need to do something that is higher paying. I need to serve more. I need to provide more value. I need to simplify these things in my business. So I’m not putting any energy on them. Um, I need to feel more resourced and supported. So I might need an assistant.

 

[00:07:37] Some of them are going to be strategic and they are really important. They are super important. I need to figure out how to do my taxes. We cover all of these things in body based business. Some of them are strategic. Some of them are somatic. Some of them are going to be like, okay, well, I need to feel safe being perceived as a rich person.

 

[00:07:53] I need to feel supported by my partner and know that they’re not going to leave me. I

 

[00:08:00] need to love myself. I need to forgive myself from an investment that I made that wasn’t supportive. I need to feel that I’m worthy of receiving. I need to feel That I could actually receive that physically in my body.

 

[00:08:14] Like that needs to feel possible for me instead of a far away dream. I need to feel. Resilient that I can get through anything. Um, I need to feel safe. And so though, that’s kind of the question that I want to invite you to ask yourself. And I do have a podcast episode on this and it’s going to spark some ideas for what you can do.

[00:00:00] You’re a smart person, that’s why you’re here listening to this podcast. And I know that you probably struggle with being consistent. We’re gonna bring more consistency into your life without doing things you hate.

[00:00:11] By the end of this episode, you will learn the number one nervous system that you cannot be consistent. How to use ESIM methods and modern neuroscience to find consistency and what you absolutely have to know about discipline to find more ease, pleasure and abundance in your life for the rest of your life.

[00:00:46] Sheridan: In our last episode, we spoke a little bit about the upper limit, the amount of pleasure and success the nervous system feels safe receiving. We’re going to touch a little bit more on that today. So just to recap super quickly. , when [00:01:00] you are stretching your upper limit, so moving past the amount of pleasure and success that the nervous system feels safe, seizing, receiving the body begins to feel unsafe and it will do things such as self sabotage, worry, complain, or do things that you know that you shouldn’t do or create new problems to solve that are really not that important and not going to get you towards your goal, to, uh, Make sure that you don’t go to this place that your body perceives to be really unsafe.

[00:01:32] It only perceives it to be unsafe because it is unknown. So here’s the reason why smart people can’t be consistent. It comes down to one thing that we’re going to work on in two different ways using nervous system regulation inspired on polyvagal theory and Ayurveda. We’re kind of bringing in together here, the Western and the Eastern.

[00:01:58] And it comes back into [00:02:00] this idea that an active mind, there’s so much, there’s so much energy in your mind. There’s so much energy in your mind. Your active mind will do this little thing where it invents a problem. To solve an active mind would rather solve a problem that it knows how to solve then solve a problem that it doesn’t know how to solve and your nervous system kind of dictates where energy goes and how your mind and the state of your nervous system.

[00:02:32] So whether I’m in a fight, flight, freeze, fawn or regulated state, the state of your nervous system dictates how your mind perceives is going to best use that energy. So if we’re, if the body perceives the unknown to be unsafe and it still has all of this energy in its head, it needs to use it in some way.

[00:02:56] It doesn’t want to create the thing that you want to create because [00:03:00] it thinks that that’s going to be unsafe. It invents a problem. It gives you new problems to solve. So you spend all of this time and energy, for example, thinking about how can I be more consistent instead of being more consistent. So you might find that you have an active mind.

[00:03:22] You’re smart. If you’re listening to this podcast, like you’re smart, you’re doing things in your life, you’re ambitious, you’re self loving, you’re a million things. And so you might have trouble being consistent. And that might be because if you, your body knows that if you were consistent, it would get a lot of things done.

[00:03:46] It would serve a lot of people. It would receive a lot of money. Things would get really, really good and that might be petrifying to your body. Hmm.[00:04:00]

[00:04:01] Yeah. It might be petrifying to your body. Like what if things got better? How would that feel? Some of you are going to be sitting there like, Oh my God, Sharon, it would feel really, really amazing. It would feel really amazing. Yeah. It would feel amazing. I have no doubt. And a lot of the time there are parts of ourselves that aren’t so sure that it would feel amazing.

[00:04:23] And this can manifest as simply as I don’t want to pay more taxes or it could manifest as I’m worried that if I earn more than my husband, I’m going to lose them. Or what happens if I earn more than my dad, if I’m more educated than the rest of my family or if I get canceled on the internet, if you really sit and think about it, what would happen if things got good?

[00:04:44] What new problems would I have? What specific challenges would I have? You will have them. Challenges don’t disappear overnight because you earn more money or you sign more clients or you work less hours some do but[00:05:00]

[00:05:02] So when we are trying to be more consistent, and we find that we have an active mind that makes it more difficult for us to be more consistent, we really need to come in, in both the back door and the front door. When I say back door, I mean that it’s more of like an indirect, subtle way. It’s very, very potent, but it’s more subtle.

[00:05:27] address the imbalances that are making your body feel like it needs to invent these new problems of figuring out why I can’t be more consistent instead of just being consistent and We can do that in a couple of different ways So a lot of the time our mind begins to get really active in inventing these problems because it is Imbalance with the elements of wind and fire.

[00:05:56] When wind and fire are out of balance in your overall mind body [00:06:00] system, including the nervous system, it creates a lot of movement and it makes it really, really hard to stay consistent. And then it exacerbates this active mind, which then creates more problems, which then makes it more hard to stay consistent, which like you’re all over the place.

[00:06:15] And it’s this big, you know, um, what’s it called domino effect. And so when we’re working through the back door, we want to actually invoke a little bit of discipline.

[00:06:33] I hear you guys, this is Freya. She is my cohost. She helps me. She asked me the questions that you guys are already thinking, cause I know you guys are thinking them and she’s learning to build her business alongside you. And if you hate discipline, just like Freya here, I hear you. I hear you. I hear you. I hear you.

[00:06:51] Pretty sure every single client of mine that I’ve ever worked with has hated discipline. Not all of them, but like maybe 75%. [00:07:00] And so, a lot of the time, we actually feel like we hate discipline because of stability. Because maybe it’s actually related to a painful memory, such as, I had to be really disciplined when I was working in XYZ, or when I was getting my master’s degree, or, or, you know, when I was a kid, and it was really uncomfortable for me.

[00:07:23] And that’s really valid. Sometimes we just hate discipline because… We just like, we think it takes away from our pleasure or our freedom, but I want you to consider the fact that stability and discipline create freedom and pleasure because stability and discipline focus energy and it is focused energy that becomes more potent energy that in the end creates more freedom and pleasure.

[00:07:53] If you were disciplined with your consistency and you did it in a way that doesn’t feel like you’re [00:08:00] drudging through mud, But a way of like, I feel good in my body and I feel excited about this, then you will create more momentum and you will create more ease and you will create more freedom and you will create more pleasure.

[00:08:21] Now I’m not saying you need to just go and sit down and just be disciplined about that. I’m actually inviting you to look at discipline in a slightly different way. I want you to look at discipline in how can I increase the elements of stability, warmth and security through loving discipline, not just discipline for the sake of discipline, but how can I increase The amount of stability in my life.

[00:08:45] So routines are really helpful. The amount of warmth in my life, things like self massage or just being warm or being with warm people or the amount of security in my life. So what are the things that I can do that bring me a sense of [00:09:00] security for some people that’s wearing a specific t shirt regularly, or.

[00:09:06] You know, for me, it’s actually having eggs for breakfast. I love eggs for breakfast. I have it every single morning and my life changes a lot and I am moving around a lot and I, I find that having eggs for breakfast just gives me a sense of security. It’s a really nice thing for me. , maybe it’s meditation, maybe it’s.

[00:09:26] Having a coach, like what are the things that are warm and stable and secure in my life, and how can I bring more of them into my life? It doesn’t even have to be related to your coaching business or your service business or your product. It doesn’t have to do anything to do with anything of that. Some of the really good ways to do it that I recommend, um, some of my clients inside of body-based business, when we’re in body, in body-based business, we have an Ayurveda intake form.

[00:09:55] And we make specific recommendations so that we’re looking at how you’re supporting your business through [00:10:00] this backdoor. And so, when we’re trying to bring in these elements, some of the recommendations that I will make are having warm foods, having a stable routine in all parts of your life as you can, and making fun for spon making time for spontaneity.

[00:10:15] Don’t go overboard. Having sweet foods that are grounding, so that might be like red meat or sweet potatoes, like potatoes of any sort. These are slightly, these are kind of sweeter foods that are really grounding and just pull you back down into the earth and evoke the elements that of stability, warmth, and security.

[00:10:36] And that kind of lowers the imbalance of wind and fire, which is making your mind up in the air. Deck floating around unable to focus another way of doing this is with an Ayurvedic self massage which is called Abhyanga, which is just really lavishing your body in oil and Oh, it’s just beautiful. [00:11:00] Um, it’s, I’ll be on go. You can also Google it. So that’s the back door. That’s how we’re going to bring more consistency through the back door. Then we have the front door, which is the more direct way. And I kind of touched on this before, but it’s worth its own step. You need to look at your relationship to consistency and discipline.

[00:11:24] You need to look at how you feel. About being consistent and being disciplined. Is there in fact perhaps a trauma from when you were in academics? Is there a part of you that doesn’t actually want this thing and is self sabotaging? Are there perhaps emotions of disappointment or feelings of failure?

[00:11:43] That happened that you are experiencing inside of your body that you haven’t processed from the last time that you were really focused and disciplined. We need to look into the actual specific reason why it’s really hard for you to be consistent. We need to process and integrate that, learn the [00:12:00] lesson, gain the wisdom, and then move on and be consistent because you’re smart.

[00:12:07] You’re smart and smart people can be consistent. Sometimes it’s just harder for us. So what I would recommend that you do is take action on all of these things and then go back to the last episode, episode number 49. It’s called How to Stop Yourself Sabotage. [00:00:00] Sheridan: If you desire a profitable business, you’re going to have to be seen. Yet being afraid of being seen is one of the biggest, most common fears that we face. So in today’s episode, by the end, you will know how my client went from a fear of being seen to boldly standing in her confidence with her expertise and signing clients doing so.

 

[00:00:38] How a fear of being seen actually serves our highest values and how to tap into the wise CEO inside and make grounded business decisions.

[00:00:48] I was recently working with a client of mine and we were talking about I help statement talking about who she serves, how she serves them, what she does. And she came to me [00:01:00] pretty clear, yet it was a little bit vague and we started speaking about it and she was like, yeah, you know, I kind of do these two things, you know, you guys, we’ve all been there where you like talk about how you do two things, um, and it’s not clear enough to the correct people.

[00:01:16] And so you’re not really attracting the sales that you desire because.

[00:01:25] So I asked her a few more questions about why she was keeping this communication more vague and kind of using almost like fluffy language. And now sometimes vague, fluffy language actually isn’t wrong and bad. I’m not saying like many other business coaches will say, Oh, you have to say it this specific way.

[00:01:45] That’s not necessarily true. But in this case, what was coming off was. And it was because she was vague about it. She wasn’t clear. She was keeping her communication vague and she was keeping her presence small. Like [00:02:00] she was going up and she was taking action. She was being consistent and all the things, but her community was quite small and her sales reflected that same keeping small essence.

[00:02:11] They were small. And she shared in the past the She had been orienting towards being a little bit more vague because she had felt scared. In the past, she had been called out for being opinionated, for being blunt, and she’d actually damaged some of her relationships and lost friends due to it. And so, as we were speaking, I could see that there was a part of her that was really hurt by this experience, and still in a lot of pain.

[00:02:48] She was really clear that she didn’t want to communicate in ways that hurt other people. She didn’t want to hurt herself either. She didn’t want to [00:03:00] come off as arrogant, or judgmental, or kind of like she knows better. And this is a good desire, but because of the way that it was showing up, she was kind of filtering what she was saying, being vague about it, afraid of being bold and being heard by nobody.

[00:03:23] Nobody was clear on what she did, and how it would support them in their lives. Then she went into that negative feedback loop where she’s overthinking now and she’s getting less done and she feels anxious and she can’t sleep and she’s worried and she’s scripting everything and trying to try really hard to say the right thing, worried that if she doesn’t say it eloquently, she will make people feel bad.

[00:03:53] So as we’re speaking, I could see that she was really being pulled into this experience [00:04:00] and actually blending with a part of her that was so worried about this fear that it couldn’t see what the business needed or what her community needed. Her entire experience was wrapped around how to make this to not hurt people, That we were failing to show up as the CEO or as the wise self in the business.

[00:04:28] Nothing wrong. This happens. This happens to all of us. This happens to me. This is a natural part of the human mind, and it will probably continue to happen to us in different levels, in different ways for a while, of course. We’re going to learn to stop it really quickly. I can pretty much feel now when, like, I feel like I’m pretty good at feeling when, when I’m like blending with a part cause I’ve stepped into that why self and that CEO so many times, but unless you’ve done it a lot, it can be really difficult to see and really difficult to [00:05:00] catch.

[00:05:00] And sometimes you just need. Some loving support to do so. And so I was at loving support with her for her as her coach. I could see that she was blended with this part. She wasn’t accessing that wise self CEO inside. She wasn’t addressing what her community needed and what her business needed. So we used to practice to create space and help her step into that.

[00:05:22] Self energy, that why self energy, that wise, loving parent energy for the part that was scared.

[00:05:32] Um, and then step into the wise CEO for the business. So there are two things here. There are two needs that need to be met. There is the need of the part that is worried about how it’s going to be perceived. And then there is the need of the business and your job as a business owner. is to meet both needs.

[00:05:53] A business owner who like, you know, likes themselves, at least sometimes, is to meet both needs. [00:06:00] However, if your inner child needs love and care and reassurance, yes, we can meet that need within the business and that we can structure the business and the I help statement so that it can feel safe, but it’s not the business’s responsibility to make your inner child.

[00:06:20] Feel loved and seen and heard it’s yours. So what we did was we met this part’s need. We gave it love and care and reassurance. And we healed that experience that she had previously gone through, integrated that, found the wisdom. Then we let her wise CEO and business owner look at the problem in the business, which was the I help statement.

[00:06:46] Good question. Guys, this is Freya. You’ve had her before. She is my cohost and she asks questions that you probably asking yourself as you guys both build your business in the body based way together. So this relates [00:07:00] to the nervous system because when we perceive a lack of safety, we kind of get a tunnel vision and it’s really smart when you’re running away from a bear.

[00:07:08] You’re just interestingly running away from the back. However, it’s not so smart when that bear. It is your social media and your I help statement because it means that you don’t really solve the problem. It’s really hard to get creative and to get clarity and to be wise when you perceive that you’re being right, you’re running away from a bear.

[00:07:28] So in this case, the bear was simultaneously the I help statement, but really what it was was the internal experience that a part of my client was having around being seen and being bold. And so. that was causing a lot of discomfort inside. And so what we needed to do was break the pattern, come at it from another space, use my nervous system to help regulate hers, use different tools to help that, ask different [00:08:00] questions, meet that part’s need, love, care, reassurance.

[00:08:05] And then through meeting that part’s need and through using the body. And the mind and curiosity together, what we did was we decreased the amount of threat that the body was perceiving because we decreased the amount of threat that the body was perceiving. We were able to step into the YCO business owner and then creatively look at the problem of the business, right?

[00:08:29] We look at problems in the business from a regulated space because we’re much wiser. We’re much smarter. We have more creativity. We have more clarity. It’s easier. It’s just a better use of our energy. So she’s like you, she’s super smart. And we sat for like 5 minutes talking about it and looking at her iHealth statement.

[00:08:48] And it became very obvious what her product is, who she helps, how she does it. And this is something that she had not gotten this clear and confident on in YEARS. Despite doing different [00:09:00] programs. And even after selling packages. She ended up saying something to me. Along the lines of like, I’m not going to get it perfectly because she ended up sending me a message later that day saying that she was sitting in Starbucks with more gratitude, enthusiasm and clarity in her business and in a long time, she said, I’m truly beyond grateful for this opportunity, your times, your questions and your guidance.

[00:09:26] Thank you so much. That’s how it feels to step out of the fear of being seen. Gratitude, enthusiasm, clarity, more than you’ve had in a long time. Gratitude. Like that’s so beautiful. When you step out of your fear of being seen and you meet that need with love and care, then you step into the wise CEO business owner and you look at the problem.

[00:09:56] You overcome that fear of being seen with so much ease that you can do it over [00:10:00] and over and over and over and over and over again and your business grows and you make sales because of it. [00:00:00] Sheridan: If you ever feel like there’s just something that isn’t quite right, there’s something that’s wrong, there’s something wrong with you, there’s something wrong with the way that you’ve decided to do things and you’re trying to create a profitable business that you’re proud of, this episode is for you.

[00:00:17] Today, by the end of the episode, you will know the one way to know if things are wrong or if they just feel wrong. What you must know if you want to create a sense of ease in business. Make money and feel like everything is going right and really the only strategy that you’re going to need to heal this feeling and increase your income at the same time.[00:01:00]

[00:01:07] A lot of the people that come to work with me come with an underlying feeling of something being wrong. Either something wrong with the decisions that they have made in the past or the ones they’re making. The current present, maybe the ones that they will make in the future, or a feeling that there’s something wrong with them.

[00:01:30] And this feeling of something being wrong more often than not, and I’ll let you know kind of how to differentiate a little bit here when it is and when it isn’t, but more often than not it is your nervous system kind of picking up on the information that it has and the information that it doesn’t have.

[00:01:50] And assuming that something is wrong because it’s kind of [00:02:00] perceiving that it’s still in a situation where something was wrong. So it’s either just used to that. And that’s like, well, it’s always been this way. Therefore it is this way. There’s something wrong. Or there’s something that’s happening either in your environment, um, or internally that’s reminding your body of a situation where something was wrong.

[00:02:25] This can look like you may have been somebody who grew up where there was something happening inside of your family dynamic that like we didn’t talk about. And your body was like, well, there’s something wrong. Like I can feel it. I can feel that there’s something wrong, but we don’t talk about it. Or maybe mom and dad didn’t get on.

[00:02:47] And so there was this underlying tension that you felt as a kid, but you know, that was between mom and dad. You weren’t a part of that. They didn’t explain it to you. Didn’t, you didn’t understand that you were a kid. [00:03:00] Or maybe it was more of a situation where maybe you were perhaps very religious and the way that you understood that religion and the way that it was taught to you and the way that you internalized it was that there was maybe something wrong with you or something wrong with the world or the world was wrong or and a lot of this happens when a lot of this A lot of the time it also happens when maybe there was something wrong inside because it felt like sometimes your parents were available to take care of you and sometimes they weren’t.

[00:03:31] Or sometimes mom and dad were happy and sometimes they weren’t. And there was either this underlying tension that fell off or a message that something was wrong with the world or something was wrong with you as an individual or. There was a rollercoaster up and down. And for some of us, it’s a lot of them, you know, I grew up going to a Catholic school and a lot of the messages that I received that I.[00:04:00]

[00:04:01] Were that there was something wrong with me. I grew up and I lost my hair at seven years old. I lost all of my hair basically. And so I thought there was something wrong with me and there was tension in my parents match. And somehow I thought that that was something wrong as well. And so I carried with me this sense of like, there’s something wrong all of the time because Number one, that’s what my body was used to.

[00:04:27] It was the assumption, the belief that it had created about the world because it helped me navigate when something really, truly was wrong. And number two. So the way that it navigated that was heightening its senses to make sure that things are okay and to be on the lookout for things being okay. So aware of how other people perceive me, worried about what they think, aware of the micro changes in their voice and their body language.

[00:04:57] And in some ways this has really helped because [00:05:00] I’m now very intuitive and great at my job.

[00:05:05] In other ways, it hasn’t because it’s, it’s been difficult. It’s been difficult to feel like things are wrong, whether with myself or with the world. And this plays out particularly in business because so much of business is unknown, right? So I’m sitting in my room right now recording this podcast. I can’t see you.

[00:05:26] I don’t know how you’re receiving this information. And if I. Came to this podcast with a feeling or believing that something is wrong, that could cause me a lot of anxiety because me not being able to perceive you, and maybe there’s silence, maybe nobody talks to me about this podcast, you know, that could happen, maybe there’s silence, but me not being able to perceive how it’s received could make me feel anxious because it might remind my body of perhaps like not knowing if my dad was going [00:06:00] to be there for me to attune to me when I was a kid and it.

[00:06:04] It sounds like they’re not connected, but at the same time, I think you can feel inside of your body that they are, and we can validate the very real experience of the body that they may be connected, or it might remind you of the time that like you really wanted to get up on stage and sing in the school choir or like the school talent show, and it was received badly, so not having Immediate feedback or not having immediate positive feedback from the audience can make you feel really anxious in your business Feedback is in the way of comments and it is the way of like engagement, but it’s also inside in money And I think that this is why for some people it can be really difficult to engage in sales because We’re going out, we’re putting out this energy and it takes courage to do that and then if you don’t receive like the financial contribution that you desire immediately, it can activate this trauma response and it can reinforce this idea that something is wrong.[00:07:00]

[00:07:00] Something is wrong. And so something that has been really really helpful for me is to Assume that nothing is wrong until something is wrong. So let’s assume that nothing is wrong until something is wrong. We don’t have a, and I say this to my clients, I have a program called body based business, and if you are my client listening to this, you will, you will, I can like hear you chuckling.

[00:07:24] Cause I say this so often, we don’t have a problem until we have a problem. There’s nothing wrong until there’s something wrong. So when you’re feeling like something is wrong. We can begin to create a sense of discernment, and this is kind of coming into option. Sorry, little, little tidbit number two here that I promised you, this is what you must know if you want to create a sense of ease in business, make money and feel like it’s going right.

[00:07:54] We need to learn to create space from the feeling of something being wrong [00:08:00] and settling into the fact that even though it may feel this way, it may not be this way. It’s important to note here that here we are not self gaslighting. We’re not trying to like just. To convince you that you’re feeling a certain way.

[00:08:14] We’re learning to create nuance and we’re unblending from the pain of something going wrong. So sometimes it can be helpful to just understand why I might feel like things are going wrong. Just, okay, I feel like things are going wrong right now because this is, this makes sense because of my childhood, because of the uncertainty that I’m experiencing right now, because I’m unsure because of one time things did go wrong and my body is perceiving this way.

[00:08:43] So my body can feel like things are going wrong, but it doesn’t mean that it is going wrong. In fact, we can assume that things are going right until they’re going wrong. We can assume [00:09:00] and we can trust, even when it’s hard, that things are going right, even though I feel like things are going wrong. Things are going right, even when I feel like things are going wrong.

[00:09:11] And I’ve said to my clients and invited my clients, it’s been really helpful for them and for me even sometimes to just repeat that and trust that and create some space. A part of me feels like things are going wrong and I’m safe and things are going right. The tension in my chest is telling me that things are going wrong and I’m safe and things are going right.

[00:09:34] So what we’re doing here is we’re just expanding your capacity to perceive your environment in your body and externally inside of your business. We’re bringing a bigger perspective to things and that is a perspective that helps us heal. And this comes to the next step, which is the only strategy that you need to heal this feeling and create, increase your income at the same time.[00:10:00]

[00:10:11] The strategy that we need is two prongs. We need to create resource, which creates space away from this feeling, and we need to heal the root cause. Sometimes, just creating space and resource is enough to spontaneously healing the root cause. The root cause. Without having to like go back into the memories, sometimes education and awareness helps us heal the root cause.

[00:10:37] And sometimes you have to go through and do like a more of a healing practice and embodiment practice around it. But to be more clear, what I’m inviting you to do, the strategy that I’m inviting you to use is to, I don’t like to say release, but transmute or alchemize the energy in the body. That’s telling us that something is wrong.

[00:10:57] We had that experience when we [00:11:00] were young. Maybe something your teacher did, your dad did, maybe there was a disaster, maybe there was a war, maybe there was poverty, maybe there wasn’t enough money, um, maybe it was because your ancestors were holding this, maybe it’s something your grandmother said to you one time, there is a reason, there was a reason, there was, at some point, something was wrong,

[00:11:19] at some point, something fell apart for you or your parents or your ancestors, and your body held that information, so what we do is, We resource you and we ground you into the present moment. This could be things like. feeling into the safety that you have using your senses, feeling into the love around you.

[00:11:41] This could be things just like having an income, you know, either through your business or through another job as well. That would also be valid. This is things such as speaking with your friends. This is things such as listening to this podcast, you know, keeping this, these positive, um, supportive [00:12:00] practices in your life that help you feel More empowered and grounded and understood and seen and held and keeping some separation between you and the story your body is telling, which is things are going wrong.

[00:12:16] We want to separate from that story and observe that story a little bit more. Then we can understand and go and heal the root cause and understand more than not in an analytical way, but in embodied sense of like, Oh, okay. Yeah. I feel this way. And it’s not true. Okay. Yeah. I feel this and it’s not true.

[00:12:39] Okay. Yeah. I feel like everything is going wrong and everything’s okay. For some people that’s using somatic experiencing, for some people that’s using emotional embodiment, for some people that’s using mantra or prayer or meditation, a lot of the work that I use and the ones that I use my clients is we use tools such as [00:13:00] that are inspired upon somatic experiencing, focusing, yoga therapy, Ayurvedic therapy, , somatic inquiry and all of these body based practices simply because it’s more effective.

[00:13:09] Science shows us that it’s more effective in integrating changes and maintaining them for longer periods of time. That’s why we use it. It’s better. It’s just, it’s just better. [00:00:00] Most people completely misunderstand what boundaries are and are not either use them to manipulate or they forget about them and lose themselves. Today we’re looking at how a lack of boundaries will impact your ability to make money.

[00:00:30] You’ll walk away from this episode with unpopular pricing advice and why you cannot charge what you’re worth that helped me ethically create new clients and become a full time coach. The super problem, super common, really problematic mistake that people make when working to sign more clients. And at the end, we’ll cover how my client went from fix it mode with her clients and not signing any to embodied presence and signing numerous clients in a [00:01:00] week.

[00:01:00] There’s one thing that I see a lot of people do and I personally have done myself. It’s a mistake that we make when we set an intention to increase our income or assign more clients that actually ends up making it so much harder to, to achieve our goals. But before I can share that, I want to share what boundaries are.

[00:01:25] Boundaries are often understood as kind of walls that we put up in between ourselves and other people. I like to think of boundaries as containers that help our, help us love each other or in the context of business, serve each other and support each other. So the super common, really problematic mistake most people make when working to sign more clients, making it harder to get them is that they have a lack of containers or lack of boundaries that lead to overcommitment, [00:02:00] overworking and burnout.

[00:02:02] So for example, if I’m a service provider and I Kind of say I’m available at all times because I believe that me being available at all times is going to somehow serve you more. I’m going to have more availability. I’m going to have more clients, whatever that reasoning might be. When we extend ourselves too much, it actually affects the quality of our services.

[00:02:23] It diminishes our energy and it diminishes our focus. And then in turn, that limits our earning potential. These poor boundaries. Are very much related and this type of, , activity is usually often related to a flight nervous system response. We’re afraid, there’s fear in the system, we’re worried and preoccupied about what could possibly happen if we were to stop being so available.

[00:02:47] , What’s very interesting is that this usually results in more of that chaotic energy, disorganized schedules, inefficient time management, not really feeling like you’re there, feeling spacey, perhaps even double booking [00:03:00] clients or running late for sessions and meetings or not being able to prioritize other business tasks such as marketing or financial planning.

[00:03:09] It’s this It’s usually related to that flight response that is chaotic. It feels unsafe. Sometimes it is related to a fight response where it’s like, I have to get everything done now. I have to finish these things. Both can be true. They’re slightly different undertones because one, when it’s a flight response is coming from kind of an anxiety and a fear when it’s a fight response is coming from more of like, I’ve got to do something.

[00:03:36] I’ve got to move forward. I’ve got to keep going. Independent of which one it comes from, what the body is experiencing is that when it is working, it is in a stress response. The body wants to avoid you being in a stress response, right? We don’t want to We don’t want to feel like we are running for our life all of the [00:04:00] time.

[00:04:00] We don’t want our body to feel that way. So if while you are engaging in your work, you are in a stress response, it’s going to be really difficult for your body to prioritize giving you the thoughts, feelings, emotions, and impulse to act, um, that is going to propel you forward into things that are going to do things like.

[00:04:19] Sign more clients, right, or bring in more income because the body thinks, well, work is stress and I would rather not stress. So I would rather not work.

[00:04:32] The other thing that happens that I notice a lot, especially in types of clients that I work with inside of body based business, which is my one on one, , coaching container is that we end up with a lack of firm boundaries, very much related to an underlying feeling of. Am I worthy of this? Do I know enough?

[00:04:57] Am I good enough? Do I have enough experience?[00:05:00] , this underlying feeling of I’m actually not that good at my job or I’m not that good of a person or somebody else is better than me. And so in this case, not having boundaries is kind of like the symptom of the underlying problem, which is a lack of self worth.

[00:05:22] The way that I see that, like the specific boundaries that we might see that, and the way that I see it play out with my body based business clients is that You undercharge for your services. You do a lot of free exchanges, and you feel really uncomfortable charging a fair amount or even perhaps more than what your competitors are charging because perhaps you might be actually a lot better than them.

[00:05:51] More efficient, more effective. I know I definitely felt this, especially because a lot of the work that I do, you know, a lot of people compare it to therapy [00:06:00] and it is based on a somatic therapy in a lot of ways, but it’s completely different. And what was something that I’ve really had to get my head around is that, and I think my charge, my prices are extremely low for the market, like very, very good.

[00:06:18] And very, very fair. And even in that, I had to go through my own process of understanding that, okay, cool, if somebody is to do similar work towards a goal with a different practitioner, they’re actually going to end up spending more, but it’s going to, because they’re going to be doing it for a longer period of time.

[00:06:38] It’s going to take more to get the results, but it’s going to look like it’s cheaper because maybe per hour it appears to be cheaper if that’s the way that they’re looking at their investments. I don’t necessarily expect you to look at it like that the way that I’ve looked at it and the way that I charge and the way that I invite you to is to look at the [00:07:00] value and the effectiveness of what you’re bringing to the table because I want you to recognize what your expertise is and build in it’s not even your self worth because it’s like self worth and what you charge there.

[00:07:13] There’s like comparing apples to a motorbike. They’re completely unrelated. You can’t charge what you’re worth. You are a beautiful soul and human being who is worth love, light and all that beautiful stuff. And what you charge is just one aspect of sales like and business. They’re completely opposite.

[00:07:29] They just have nothing to do with each other. You might find yourself undercharging if you don’t feel an embodied sense of confidence, expertise, and authority in what you do. You might then miss out on a lot of income that you really do deserve and qualify for. And this is a. This is an example of a lack of boundaries around your prices and also around yourself and the way that you [00:08:00] perceive yourself, kind of what I would call internal boundaries, things that you are willing to let yourself believe and act upon and things that you’re not.

[00:08:12] The other thing that I notice that is A sticky one with boundaries and there’s a way that having a lack of boundaries really diminishes your ability to receive money is that you have reduced creativity. Creativity is required. When we’re going to be an entrepreneur, we’re here doing things differently, standing out, we’re creative people.

[00:08:37] I’m a Pisces son and people always said to me like, Oh, you’re so creative. You’re meant to be really creative. And I’m, I’m, I’m not in the traditional sense of like, I don’t paint. I don’t really do a lot of that like hands on type of creativity, but I’m extremely good creative problem solver. And I am creative in other ways.

[00:08:55] And I do love expression and dance and all of those beautiful creative things and [00:09:00] music. So, I noticed a very direct corre, um, correlation between how regulated and embodied I am and my creativity. As an entrepreneur, you’re going to use your creativity in so many ways. You’re going to do content writing.

[00:09:17] You’re going to build different programs. You’re going to do, build different products. You’re going to be. Creative problem solving around the different problems in your business or supporting your clients and all of these things. So if we do not have good boundaries, we end up having an increased level of stress and then also just emotional exhaustion.

[00:09:35] And then our nervous system goes into. One of those stress response and now your body isn’t putting energy towards being creative. It thinks it’s running away from a tiger. So you miss out on new opportunities for growth. You miss out on new connections with other people. You miss out on feeling embodied and happy.

[00:09:53] As you go through the day to day experience of building your business and you miss out on opportunities to [00:10:00] develop additional revenue streams. It is extremely important that you find supportive boundaries. Extremely important because you need creativity. You need to be able to look at your money and what you charge in a neutral way without trying to tie your worth as a human being into it.

[00:10:21] . You need to feel safe as you engage in your work so that your body feels safe, helping you pursue doing more of that because I know your heart wants to. And the last one I’m going to share from a client that I had. , and her kind of experience and what we went through, through together. But in this one, my beautiful client had a lack of boundaries around her client’s energy.

[00:10:48] This client does a lot of deep transformational work. It’s kind of spiritual companionship and things like that. , and emotional processing and trauma bonding and sorry, trauma [00:11:00] healing. And, uh, She’s been doing that type of space holding for decades now, but we were finding that when she would start thinking about signing clients, she would just kind of freeze up and she’s like, she just felt like she didn’t know how to do it.

[00:11:16] Um, it didn’t make sense. She couldn’t find the, she couldn’t find the energy to go ahead and actually do any of the things that would lead to clients. And I was kind of curious about this, , in a couple of different ways. So her and I were doing a session. She was a part of the body based business and her and I was sitting down from one of our sessions and we started thinking and talking about boundaries and we did somatic practice to understand where she begins and where another person ends.

[00:11:47] And in that experience, she had a really, really profound, deep release. There was tears and there was this exclamation [00:12:00] of finally understanding what it meant to be in her energy and not blend in with the energy of another person. She had spent so long blending with her friend’s energy or her family’s energy and supporting and helping them that her body.

[00:12:17] Only knew how to support people by taking on their thoughts and feelings and feeling that some of you guys call this empathy. Some of you guys call this intuition. Some of you guys might call this codependency. , but essentially what we’re talking about is if I do not have clear boundaries between me and my client, I can’t help them.

[00:12:38] And I hurt myself in the process only, not only because. I stop having enough perspective and space to be able to see what they’re going through from a neutral perspective and be able to serve them from that space. But also because what might happen is I [00:13:00] might. Overstep my own needs in order to serve my clients.

[00:13:05] This looks like round the clock availability, quick responses to messages, or just saying yes to anything that they may ask. It also looks like feeling like you’re doing a lot of emotional labor for your clients and really feeling like you’re on top of them. If we do not have strong boundaries in place, your clients are going to expect these things.

[00:13:25] It’s going to be normal and your body is going to perceive that, Oh, okay, well this is what it’s like when I have a client, I feel stressed. I feel like I have to do emotional labor. I feel like I lose pieces of myself. I feel like I’m always on call. That’s what your body perceives work to be. So of course it’s going to make it more difficult for you to see opportunities or find the emotions and the thoughts that are going to make having a business.

[00:13:53] easier. And so it’s really important to use these somatic practices and use these energetic practices [00:14:00] and use these like hands on practices to set boundaries around your availability, around how you respond to demands, around the type of energy and emotions that you take on from other people. Internal boundaries that are firm, that encourage you regulating your nervous system, or expressing your needs, or.

[00:14:21] Time blocking, you know, these are boundaries as much with others as they are with yourself It’s you saying I’m going to time block and following through on that as always this stuff is super nuanced as always This is very complex. And as always I’ve tried my best to share tidbits that you can take away in a very short episode so that you can implement this today so that you can plug in and be the embodied entrepreneur that you were born to be.

[00:14:51] If you haven’t already, I really recommend that you look at episode number 46. It’s called what your therapist doesn’t get about business using your nervous system to create [00:15:00] profitable 5k months without anxiety. And the reason I’m recommending it is because inside of this episode, you actually get to use how do you get to cover how to use therapy and why what I do is slightly different to therapy, how to use therapy and coaching to build a buddy based business.

[00:15:19] It also will cover what sustainable 5k months actually looks and feels like. And I’ll just take a caveat to say that. If you’re not at 5k months or if somebody know that, you know, isn’t at 5k months, you haven’t done anything wrong. This is one of the biggest, most difficult things to figure out in business.

[00:15:36] You’re going to be okay. You haven’t done anything wrong. You’re on the right path. Inside of this episode, you’ll also be able to Discern whether or not body based business is worth the investment for you. And you’ll learn the unseen aspects of your psyche and business that your therapist just cannot help you with.

[00:00:00] Sheridan: This practice is the one practice that I never miss when I want to increase my income. It will reveal in 90 seconds, more than therapy does in numerous years. By the end of this episode, you’re going to learn the one question you need to ask yourself to find out what is necessary for your financial freedom.

[00:00:33] What you absolutely have to know if you’re going to create financial freedom with ease instead of struggle. And the only embodiment practice that you need for this ease and financial freedom, no matter what other people say. So you can put the books down, put the podcast out, except for this one, and make money.

[00:00:51] So a couple of years ago. I like kind of some context for my story. I have had very [00:01:00] ups and downs and different experiences with money. You know, I’ve been working since I was 13. I’ve been in entrepreneurship in different capacities. Um since I was about probably 18 or 19, I’ve supported different entrepreneurs in different ways.

[00:01:13] And I kind of fluttered around in this whole entrepreneurship journey until. Um, after I did my, , trauma therapy training and discovered these tools. And after I did my yoga therapy training and discovered these tools, I just kind of like, you know, it was successful, but it wasn’t anything amazing. And this all that I’m about to share with you today is one of the things that I started implementing almost.

[00:01:46] I was almost unaware of the fact that I was implementing it. I just started doing it very intuitively. And also because I didn’t really know what else to do. To be completely honest with you, I felt really lost. [00:02:00] And I, I knew that I needed to increase my income. I knew that I wanted to, but I didn’t really know what else to do.

[00:02:05] So I just kind of used the tools that I had to do what I wanted. This comes from the tool that I’m sharing with you. I’ve been using it in different ways and really refining it and perfecting it since I was a yoga teacher. Now, for context, when I was teaching yoga, I. I was doing a lot of it by, uh, word of mouth, and most of my clients were private clients and I was really tired because I wasn’t charging a lot, um, I was really nervous to charge things, my income was extremely low compared to What it could have been and what it should have been.

[00:02:43] I felt guilty receiving money. Now, a lot has changed since then. Most importantly, I, my whole entire relationship with money and service has changed. And the way that I see entrepreneurship. I’ve been exposed a lot to the coaching industry, as well as the therapeutic industry, as well as [00:03:00] the spiritual industry.

[00:03:01] And I think that all of these different industries and like the norms within them have little gems of truth. But, And it’s kind of up to us to decide where we fit within them, what we believe to be true within them. And so I’m kind of pulling from all of these different places.

[00:03:18] There exists a very deep truth in that we have all of these different bodies in that we have a mental body, an energetic body, an emotional body, a physical body. And if you’re going for the yoga philosophy, a bliss body, and then we have our soul and What is important for us when we’re here, we’re talking about embodied entrepreneurship and we’re looking at it through the system of the nervous system.

[00:03:45] What’s important for us to understand is that our body has a relationship with the world. It understands that through something called neuroception. And this is like deeper, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep down [00:04:00] below the unconscious, below the subconscious. It’s, it’s the deep way of the way our primal body relates with the world.

[00:04:06] It’s also a relationship that our emotion, like that is the underlying thing that influences how our emotions relate to things, how our physical body relates to things, how our mind relates to things that shapes our entire experience, right? And so. Everyone’s primal body or we’ll just say nervous system.

[00:04:26] Everyone’s nervous system has a different relationship with the world. You and I can look at the tree outside of me and have different feelings and thoughts related to that tree. We have a different relationship to it. I could buy you an ice cream and it will be different experience for you than it will be for me.

[00:04:44] I can give you 5, I can give you 500. We’re going to have a different experience related to that money. Right? But the thing is the same. And so, You, me and Becky down the block and Jessica over there and that person on Instagram can all sit down and say, I want to [00:05:00] bring in a thousand dollars this week and we’re all going to have a different relationship with that money and the process to bring that money in.

[00:05:09] And so, and that’s really what matters. And that’s why you. You look at all of these things online and books and things, and they all like how to make money, what, how to do this, you know, how to do your sales, how to sign clients like this workshop, this masterclass, understand this and you know, it’s all good information and it’s really fun to learn, but at the end of the day.

[00:05:30] What’s going to make a difference, it’s understanding your body’s relationship with that thing because that’s what is foundational, like that’s the foundation of your entire reality. The rest is just theory. The rest is just like things to study if you feel kind of like nerding out or you want a different perspective or something.

[00:05:51] The truth is what happens inside of your bones. The truth is what happens when the way that you breathe. The truth is what happens in the sensations in your chest. The truth is what [00:06:00] happens in below your thoughts, below your emotions and all of that. And it’s that truth that actually is going to discern how you need to bring.

[00:06:09] income in or how you don’t, or how you want to serve clients or how you want to, you know, structure your business, that that’s the truth. And so really, truly the one question that you need to ask yourself when you are looking to understand what is necessary for your financial freedom, it’s not. Going and reading the barefoot investor or the four hour work week or doing another masterclass or, or picking it, like, I don’t know, it’s not another mantra or a song or even a meditation practice.

[00:06:38] All of these things might be helpful at different times. The question that you need to ask yourself and really coming from a deeply contemplative embodied space, which is what I help my clients achieve inside of body based business so that they can get the answer to this question is. What is the story my body is telling me?

[00:06:59] [00:07:00] What is the story my body is telling me about bringing in financial freedom? And when you ask that from a space of contemplation, you’re going to get many different answers or perhaps nothing. I recently hosted a workshop here in Medellín, Colombia, where we had a small amount of women, and we asked ourselves this question.

[00:07:23] And… And I do this, you know, at least once or twice or five times a week with my clients and I’ve noticed the same thing to be true for them. That is true for me, which is sometimes we get an answer and it’s super clear, but it’s a thought answer. It’s not a truth answer. And sometimes we get. Uh, when I, okay, let me elaborate on that, meaning that it’s what we, what our, what we think the body is telling us, what we think is true and the body is kind of still telling us that, but it’s not coming from a place of deep resonant truth inside of our bones, inside of the depth of our being rather, it’s [00:08:00] like, Oh, I believe this is the way this kind of makes sense.

[00:08:02] This is logical. This is what I’ve learned. And that’s good information to have. It’s not necessarily wrong. We get to decide how we use that information and we get to experiment with that. What happens over time when I work with my clients and when we practice and we use these tools, we get to the point where we can ask, what is the story my body is telling?

[00:08:27] And we are able to discern what is noise, what are shoulds, what is coming from other people, um, what is limiting. And then what is empowering and what is the truth for you because your path to financial freedom is going to be different to mine because we have different strengths. We have different circumstances.

[00:08:47] We have different desires. Our soul is here doing different things. Our traumas are different. Our limitations are different. You and I both have limitations. It’s fine. It’s actually good to have limitations. It tells us how to focus our energy, [00:09:00] but. They’re different, they’re very different. And so deep down inside you have this body based blueprint to success.

[00:09:09] And we want to still the water of noise inside of you so much that we can access that truth. We want to still the thoughts we want to learn to discern which is true and which is not access that body compass, refine the way that you listen to it, take action on it, and then you come into financial freedom and ease.

[00:09:27] And we do this through practice and we do this through action and we do this through implementation and you learn all of this in body based business. But you can, you can start now. You don’t. You can start now. So I’ve already kind of told you this, but just to recap, ’cause I’m going down my notes. The one thing that you must know if you wanna create financial freedom and ease is that your body has a relationship with money.

[00:09:52] Your body has an attachment to money in the same way that has an attachment to your parents or to your loved ones. Your body has an entire experience [00:10:00] with money. And what I really want to encourage is that your body actually becomes so neutral with money. So, we’re looking towards money neutrality, not assigning it a specific level of success or safety, even though they are related, I understand that, but we want you to find a place of neutrality because when you have neutrality, what happens is the noise inside kind of stills and we’re able to, from a very non attached place, find the keys.

[00:10:32] And I hate using that word because it sounds so coachy, right? But there are these little like keys inside that when you, you can act deep down in your body, you just, you just know, you just know, and you just, okay, yes, that’s the next step. That’s correct. You know what I’m talking about. And if you don’t keep listening, keep practicing this work, you’ll find it help.

[00:10:52] It helps to get to a place of neutrality because. When we are in a place of anxiously attached, oh my God, I have to have money. If I [00:11:00] don’t have it, what if it goes away? I’m not gonna be okay or avoidant. If I have money, I’m bad. I’m guilty. Um, I’m gonna get hurt. Or kind of more disorganized where you move in between the two.

[00:11:11] Then we have all of these feelings, thoughts, sensations and emotions that come up into the body that are, are not, they’re just not. That’s supportive. They, we have to move through them. We have to understand them. We have to sort them out. And what I would rather is that when you come from place of body, body, neutrality, money, neutrality, what you can do instead is understand that what that deep, deep, deep truth is inside of your, inside of you, you know, your path to financial free freedom and ease.

[00:11:50] I do have , a podcast episode on understanding your attachment to money. The energetic subconscious and nervous system relationship that you have, and then begin to write this new money story.

[00:12:17] This is going to help you tap into the truth that you need inside of your body to access that financial freedom and ease. I’m going to share that link below in the show notes. But, before you go ahead and jump into that, my next… The next thing that I really want to share with you is the actual embodiment practice that you need for financial freedom and ease.

[00:12:40] It’s important to note here that this is a practice that is for you, for you, not anyone else. We’re not here trying to, you know, figure out what somebody else needs, um, to get it. We’re here to figure out what it is that you need to get it. No one else. And [00:13:00] so this is a practice that I’m going to outline.

[00:13:03] It is going to be absolutely impossible for me to guide you through it in the way that I would guide a client through it all in the way that I would guide myself through it just because of the context of this space. But I’m going to give you a basic idea so that you can begin to envision and understand what it might be like to begin to.

[00:13:21] Implement these embodiment practices in your life. And if when you ever enjoy me inside of body based business, or if in the future I ever have anything else, you will know a little bit more about what this looks like. Does that make sense? Okay, good. So let’s all take a couple of deep breaths,

[00:13:53] breathing into your body, breathing into your [00:14:00] belly,

[00:14:03] breathing into your, the back of your belly, the back of your neck.

[00:14:17] Beautiful. And in this embodiment practice, I want you to take a few really intentional moments to tap into the body. To notice what your feelings are, what your thoughts are.

[00:14:34] And we’re getting into the practice of being curious. We are here to be curious.

[00:14:49] We are here to learn.

[00:14:54] We are here to inquire. We are not necessarily here to understand. Not in [00:15:00] this practice, on this podcast.

[00:15:06] But once you have a feeling of an inventory of what is alive inside of your body at the moment, what emotions and what thoughts are here, take a few deep breaths and see if you can come more still. Become more neutral.

[00:15:25] Then from this place of neutrality, I want you to bring into mind the amount of money that you would like to bring in this month. The income that you would like to bring in this month.

[00:15:39] Getting very contemplative, getting very still, getting very curious.

[00:15:50] As you receive this number or this image or this thought or this feeling, we’re going to return back to that original question. You’re going to simply [00:16:00] ask, what is the story my body is telling me about achieving this?

[00:16:08] And some days there’s going to be a moment where it’s very clear. It’s telling me I need XYZ. That might be true. It makes sense to. Like to move forward on that and truth is probably going to feel expansive. There are going to be other moments where it says, I need X, Y, Z and it’s not true and it probably feels constrictive.

[00:16:36] There are going to be days where it says I’m not worthy or I would be bad or it’s not possible for me. And that tells us that we need to go down a path of healing around that. There are going to be other days where it says, I need to do this thing. You need to go and do it.

[00:16:55] There are going to be days when it feels numb and you don’t get anything. [00:17:00] And it’s also a sign that we need to go down and get inquisitive and curious about that. Possibly working with another person to help you do that, such as a coach, such as me. But as you practice over time and as you refine your ability to read this comfort, to read this compass, to read this blueprint.

[00:17:19] You are going to find financial freedom and ease. In the meantime, keep supporting yourself with these practices. Keep supporting yourself with the podcast.
